Good to know that the Greater Anglia 360s will get a new lease of life, I always thought they were too good/young to be withdrawn from service. I take it the 360s are going to be used for London-Corby services once electrification is complete, I look forward to their refurbishment. I presume new diesel trains are going to be ordered to replace the Sprinters. If I've got this right then aren't the Meridians going to be withdrawn in favour of the Adelantes and Desiros. You can see why the DfT went for Abellio's bid which is very minimal when it comes to the need to purchase new trains

Anglia are unlikely to release 360s until it has enough Aventra and got rid of its own non-compliant trains

Per Railway Gazette, order is 33 5-car (24m car length) units Not a lot to replace 9 HSTs and 23 class 222 Meridans Even if assume 4 units are replaced on Corby services by electric units, and possibly 4 class 180 units (possibly temporary) operate some then effectively replacing 32 trains with only 33 half trains Sounds to me like Abellio have put in a bid based on insufficient trains, unless I am missing something, or many services will be short 5 car units Does seem daft to force your busy services to need two catering setups as using pairs of non-gangway units

Most will be doubled up.

Class 360 are currently getting there Mods done for 110mph in Northampton in readiness to transfer to EMR, some Q paths have been showing on real train times to/from Bedford North Siding but won’t happen for a while due to Covid and pending transfer of the first units, new timetable has also been pushed back to May 2021 which has also pushed back TL changes to there MML Bedford express services to additionally call at Harpenden and Leagrave

The midland mainline OHL project up to Corby is almost complete so we may see Class 360 training begin towards end of year with EMR aiming for electric services to start around March 2021 which I’m gathering Luton/Bedford calls will start again during peak hours before there major timetable change in May 21. Class 180 are currently in storage with plans for Driver training to start soon in the mean time HST’s will carry on running for a bit longer
