They weren't popular at the garages due to corrosion. It's said that some of them had rust found during the PDI!! Thankfully MD60 was rescued and it's a terrific bus. That is true. Ensign have an open top MD in their 'toy cupboard', not sure if its an ex London one though and my Dad thinks there is a Leicester MD in preservation too.

As you said above the L's and T's had Leylands semi-auto hydracyclic 4 speed gearbox. How did Pre-Select work the same as manual on a Routemaster and 4th was the Auto position ? It was a bit similar to that. Its been some years since I last drove one.

MCW Metrobus for me! Especially M1199 - hence the username! Other types I've been fond of: LS Leyland National, both types although I preferred the Mk.1 MA Merc 811D Alexander, especially MA's 1, 02, 12, 66, 80, 82, 88 LLW Dennis Lance Wright Pathfinder - Someone has to like them, shame I don't think any have been preserved. DML Dennis Dart Marshall Capital, DML41336 TNL euro_2 Dennis Trident Plaxton President, especially TNL32926 Connex/Travel London/Abellio euro_3 Dennis Trident ALX400, especially 9765 Of the more modern stuff, there isn't really a lot that takes my fancy, however: I like London United's Optare Tempo's - there's a slight hint of Optare Excel in them! Metroline's MAN 14.240 MCV Evolution's From the stuff off the Continent, my favourite has got to be the Iveco Cityclass with Noge Cittour body, especially Costazul.net's no.186 (9753 BFR) By chance, a shot of 32926 taken yesterday appeared on my Flickr stream, taken by someone that I follow. Definitely still alive these days!

As a kid TL had a batch of wright/dart's for the P4 which was my local route. JDZ 2371 was my fav out the batch. I went on holiday to Exeter and remember seeing it down there and waited hours for it to come back to get a picture in its new colours. I will always have a soft spot for that bus!

Mine was Scania - The 1990s Nothern Counties version that ran from BW, U and T especially the ones in Docklands Express livery. Also really liked the Leyland Nationals used them first few years in secondary school on route 241 /278. www.flickr.com/photos/51738247@N03/12886964374Now its Tridents - I just find the seats comfortable compared to more modern buses. I loved those Scanias, although Grey Greens ones were nicer

K888TKS was my absolute favourite bus of all time back in the day. I can always remember seeing it for the first time at the old 158 stand in Tramway Avenue in Stratford when Stratford bus station was being redeveloped thinking "Wow that is stunning." The other major one was G684KNW (DA10) which went like a rocket.
Over the years I always had a particular fondness for Capital Citybus' Olympians (J reg Northern Counties ones were the best) and Grey Greens fleet (except for that awful ex Southampton Olympian they had) and Townlinks
Nowdays, I quite like the NBfL despite my initial hatred towards them although I still feel the lower deck layout is awful and of course the lovely Tridents on the 5

DEL2154 (LK65EAW) - Absolutely brilliant bus! It's the only one of its kind with kickdown and it can do 65mph on both routes 331 and A10. I suggest everyone take a ride on this absolute beast .... if you get the right driver that is!

My local route too! I used to get them home from primary school in Dulwich Village! I could distinguish some of them by the masking, or lack of beside the nearside route blind. Occasionally Carlyle bodied Darts appeared IIRC. Replaced by the R-FOO Darts then the W-DNO Darts which I liked the most.

That batch of Tridents were epic on the 207, 427 & 607. Some of them were certainly alright. My very first night bus ride was on TNL32916 on the N207, a trip I will always remember. The same bus was then featured in what I believe was the first Youtube vid with a specific focus on kickdowns and revving, before it became "popular". Had a bit of a soft spot for TNL 926 too, was an alright bus! 898 was also a really good one, very quick off the mark.

Glad to know she's still about as she was one of my favourite First bus Tridents, even though she's been referred to as a B7TL Volvo.

I'm sure there was one that had high backed seats and a WLT plate but I might be wrong. I also remember the odd Mercedes with the electronic display! It was route P4 that got me keen on buses and still remember the day the r Reg darts came into service as I stood at my bedroom window waiting to spot one! Pretty sure it was May 98 🙈

There were quite a few Carlyle Darts with high-backed seating, including the ones that LU refurbished for the Airbus Direct service. Very nice little buses.

I have to say since riding Stagecoach Kents "The Wave" batch of E400 MMCs (107xx batch) and RATPs ADH45258-45261 that I am a big fan of the E400MMC the most out of the main types that are being delivered new to London currently.
ADH45258-45261 are nice smooth vehicles and are pretty fast, I have to say I am happy whenever one of these turns up for me on the 642 as I enjoy riding these.
I wish there was more E400MMCs around Edgware, I know the 79 is due some but sadly this is not a route I use, unless some of its MMCs stray onto the 642.
I will also be riding some of Go Ahead South Coasts E400MMCs this summer down in the Isle of Wight, and I'm looking forward to trying them out, I will also be riding some of their classic E200s as well.

For me, DLA156 as it was super quick on the 243, 6226 on the 370 was fun at high speeds on narrow lanes near Upminster I quite liked the brief spell of the Voith MMs on the 232 ( the LK07AY* batch), along with the 1st gen DWs such as DW47 on the 349... and of course DW411, 'Father of StreetDeck' MDL1 only managed one day on the 491, would have been nice to have a VDL SB180 around as it was unique I like the Voith B9TLs like VW1301 and VN36139 as well, but with all Voiths, they change gear too quick nowdays, like the ENNs on the W4 For buses back in the day, it would be the Metrobuses on the 207, and the Leyland Olympians on the 468 (68A) with original gearbox. Bow's Scania RMs for their turn of speed and engine note Outside London, I liked the Bristol VRs with Southern Vectis on the Isle of Wight
