New consultation for N550 and D3 consultations.tfl.gov.uk/buses/routes-d3-n550/N550 changes involve serving London City Island and Trinity Bouy Wharf D3 changes involve serving London City Island as no longer able to serve some private roads

Just skimmed over this but are they actually proposing anything new for the D3?

Just skimmed over this but are they actually proposing anything new for the D3? No just making things permanent and explaining why the diversion from TH Town Hall happened

Sigh, more lies pedalled by TfL. The N550 was likely always going to be rerouted via City Island due to the large volumes of housing from this development. There's also the lack of accessibility (likely deliberate) in & out of the Island; I've cycled there so have seen this first-hand. It sounds daft that the only pedestrian access is closed at nights; but rather attracts beggars so is unfavourable by the tenants living there after a certain time of night. There's also the Blackwall Way routing which gives no node in mentioning it was months late and was supposed to happen when the D3 was rerouted from Crossharbour to Leamouth. All that aside, I'm completely indifferent to the routing. If anything, I'm a bit annoyed that that stretch of East India Dock Road wouldn't have a higher PVR at night than what it sees from the 115 during the day (guess Forest Road can claim that crown now snoggle ). The only critique I can offer is no new bus stops appearing on Leamouth Road, presumably to not add onto journey times. There's also the displaced passengers at Blackwall but they are within walking distance to night buses at Poplar so aren't too disadvantaged.

I do not see any evidence that TfL was interested in serving the Leamouth Peninsula with any bus routes until the D3 was diverted and now there’s explanation to the eleventh hour D3 diversion. I disagree that it is daft to close the pedestrian bridge because on the north bank the only real access point on that side is Canning Town station, which is not a 24hour public pathway. What relevance does Blackwall Way being late have to do with making the D3 changes permanent? There are schemes which are running far further behind than this one was considering TfL had rushed very hard to push the isle of dogs changes through. I think these changes are near enough harmless in comparison to other Central London schemes. the N550 is hardly the first route you want to catch on East India Dock Road considering the route after Poplar from Canning Town is so convoluted. Stops on Leamouth Road can be added once there is at least demand on the new routing.

I like the idea of the N550 diversion and the new links created - always found it assuming East India Dock Road has more routes serving it at night! with the N15, N550 and N551!

At last something that might be deemed a positive development to the Night Bus network rather than the ongoing unravelling of 20+ years positive development. Shame TfL can't draw their map showing Prestons Road as the existing route for the N550 rather than showing it as new (sloppy proof reading strikes again). Leamouth Road will join the exclusive club of sections of road only served by TfL night buses but no day services.
Interesting also that Embankment is being permanently abandoned as a TfL bus served road. I appreciate the Tideway Tunnel works will take ages but it looks more like an effort to shift the N550 to helping the N15 out on relevant sections given its recent cuts. Basically this is a pretty uncontroversial set of changes.

Stops on Leamouth Road can be added once there is at least demand on the new routing. 1. It seemed daft to me that TfL not reroute the N550 to City Island, it's too big of a development to not have a night route. Not sure if the 400m rule applies for night routes, but East India Dock Road would certaainly exceed that if passengers were only given that corridor as an option. Obvious is a better word than daft; the N550 is the Isle of Dogs night route so likely contender. I thought the D3/277 was always intended to head to City Island though, and for that I apologise for saying that. 2. I wasn't referring to the private pathway to Canning Town Station from the development, which you are right about. What I was referring to, and you illustrating my point further; is that City Island is on the other side of the River Lee and the footbridge only ferrys you to either embankment. The one in situe on the the northern bank is on Bow Creek Ecology Park. That's the bit of dreary green the 'posher' residents have to battle through to get to East India Dock Road for access to Canning Town when the station subway is closed. I have no doubt residents complained about night-time accessibility (with concerns over safety) and so the developers had a word with TfL. 3. The relevance of Blackwall Way when referencing changes to the D3 is that I'd like TfL to be honest and say it was late being introduced. The way it was put in the document, presented it like there was no delay and on time. I personally would like to see tranasparency but accept it's not necessary. 4. During the day is another matter but night passengers on East India Dock Road between Canning Town & Poplar are very savvy. They have had to contest with overcrowded N15s for years with no prospect of boarding the 1st bus in the past on weekends. Believe me; up until last Thursday, I stiill saw passengers alight at All Saints on a N550 heading into the city. I'm also not happy about the permanent reroute away from Enbankment and hope to see it return there in the future as the N550 is one of the more scenic night routes in London.

There maybe contention in catching the N15 on East India Dock Road but there is still the N551 which shares several destinations as theN15 and N550. There is still sufficient night service provisions for this affected area. At first glance I did not agree with the permanent diversion of the n551 in central London. However now I think the permanent diversion from Embankment is justified. considering the route may not be serving this section for several years passenger trips on the diverted routes will become established. Once Embankment fully reopens TfL can look and see if a night route is required and it may be that a more suitable route can be diverted along there if any is required. Although I can't align in the N551 being retained on that section for scenic purposes.

Although I can't align in the N551 being retained on that section for scenic purposes. I was referencing journeys in the past when the N15 was x12 at weekends; and in particular in the eastbound direction. The corridor became known to me around college when I was regularly visiting south-east London for socialising at very unsociable hours. Hopping off a [N]108 and trying to get the first N15 at Brunswick Road was not possible at weekends. You either let 2 or 3 N15s pass by packed eastbound, or hop on the N550/551 and try to squeeze in at Canning Town. I recall hideous times from 2012 until 2014; the N15 is much calmer after its suped-up frequency increase post 2014. I know it's a typo but it's the N550 redirected away from Enbankment. N551 was permanently rerouted in the City ever since the Aldgate works made a host of banned turns around the Aldgate High Street area; and so was reworked via Threadneedle Street, Old Broad Street, Wormwood Street and Houndsditch instead of via Cornhill & Leadenhall Street. It helps differ the Docklands night routes further and I'm all for it, and there's a small demand for Canning Town at Wormwood Street so thumbs up from me.

I'd like to inform everyone that despite this consultation still being open for 6 more days, TfL have retendered route N550 with the reroute at Leamouth. Meh, I've given up on the consultation process long ago anyways.

Yeah - from 36 responses and even the local council didn't formally respond. Noteworthy that TfL have not given a response to issues raised nor set a date for implementation. That must raise some question as to whether this will proceed any time soon.

It always good to have a loads of responses but i guess 36 is proportional as that’s most probably how many people TfL think use the N550 on a weeknight. I do not blame LBTH for not giving a response especially seeing as though TfL completely ignored the detailed response given on all the Isle of Dogs changes.
