Ford takes on Uber with bus-like 'Chariot' service in Londonwww.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2017/11/04/ford-takes-uber-bus-like-chariot-service-london/"Ford is gearing up to launch a bus network in London, gatecrashing the capital’s crowded transport market and establishing a new rival to Uber. The company’s Chariot service hopes to tempt smartphone-savvy commuters away from Uber and public transport by providing fixed bus routes along commuter hotspots. However, the service is likely to face significant opposition from established taxi and minicab firms, and may struggle to gain approval from Transport for London (TfL) amid Uber’s bitter row over its own licence being revoked." --- Chris Date | CMPDTwitter: twitter.com/cmpd_date

Well if Ford just think they can walk in and "cream off" the bus network they might get a shock. TfL are NOT going to relinquish any sort of control so Ford may find they up against a formidable regulator if they try to barge in. London is not the USA. I accept the press article is probably littered with hyperbole but Citymapper have showed how to do this properly. The last thing we need is legions of 15 seater minibuses hurtling hither and thither on top of taxis, private hire vehiles and 10 million [1] white vans delivery parcels. [1] slight exaggeration here.

I'm kind of with you on this one it gets Thursday during the week and it's like 20 million taxi's hit the road all at once and it carries on through out the weekend this is of course at night as I'm a night driver haha.... We don't need lost minibuses too. We have to put up with enough from the lost uber that's playing with his phone and hasn't got a clue where he are she is 😮😮😂😂

That looks a lot like a van to me. That's what I was thinking - I've rode in the back of a Transit before but I certainly wouldn't pay to do so lol.

The links give more info on routes, operating times etc. content.tfl.gov.uk/lsp-bulletin.pdf

Having looked quickly at the LSP consultations and the routes there are 2 or 3 routes there that could do rather well given they genuinely open up new links. The crucial factors will be recognition, reliability and pricing. The Wandsworth Wanderer cleverly steals in and nicks what TfL were going to do with the 485 (?) in that new bit of Wandsworth Riverside. The links to Abbey Wood, North Greenwich and Bermondsey are the ones that I think could rather well providing people can afford to use them. I do suspect, though, that some of the proposals will fall foul of residents not wanting Transit minibuses scuttling back and forth at rush hours on back streets and using normal parking bays as stands. Can't see that West London one surviving the consultation process although I suspect Greg Hands MP will no doubt love the prospect of private buses kicking TfL's backside. No doubt our Mayor will love all this "enterprise" while he carries on killing the conventional bus network.

No doubt our Mayor will love all this "enterprise" while he carries on killing the conventional bus network. The Wandsworth Wanderer seems to be very dependant on how much demand will be generated from those at Wandsworth Riverside as otherwise, most of the route has plenty of TfL options reaching Clapham Junction already. The one snag I see is the fact that buses will have to stand at Wandsworth Road Station and trying to run along Lavender Hill at certain times can be very bothersome not helped by the only alternative having to cut over to Clapham Common to use the equally busy Battersea Rise - if this affects reliability, TfL may be a suprising beneficiary here. The Battersea Bullet is the one that jumped out straight away as being a potentially good link until the Northern Line extension opens to which point, the route may become redundant.

It would probably be easier and quicker for them to stand at Latchmere Road to be honest, especially as they can take the shortcut back to Clapham Junction. Then again, you can find all sorts of buses at that stand at random times.

They seem to have done some very thorough research into where these routes will work. They could be onto a winner with the Shooters Hill Shot - plenty of money up the hill that can afford to skip the 486. Notable that its Kidbrooke leg partially follows the 386 - always wondered why that route wasn't switched to North Greenwich when the Jubilee Line opened.
I imagine there'll be a lot of demand for expansion from areas that have been demanding services or improvements to services for years but have been ignored - Kidbrooke Village (the old Ferrier) for one, along with part of the 108 corridor through Blackheath. (I'll stop now before I start crayoning my own Chariot route...)
One thought springs to mind with the North Greenwich service - I'd have applied for an alternative route to Lewisham as a contingency for the rare days the Jubilee Line goes up the wall; it'd be better than being stuck on the peninsula...
