"Nothing to do with us guv, it's those evil TOCs and nasty government that made us do it". I do hope we are not getting 4 years of this nonsense churned out annually. It would not go amiss for City Hall to be a bit more grown up on issues like this. I also note that the Mayor chose to make no reference to an "early 2018" introduction date for the extended Hopper ticket scheme in any of the formal paperwork but is happy to plaster himself across Twitter a few hours later to "launch" this date. Not a little pathetic and quite frankly irritating for those of us who rely on formal paperwork to get to the facts.

It's a PR mayoralty. It's depressing because so much of his transport policy simply doesn't make sense, but very few are asking difficult questions. Apart from a certain Mr Dismore, mind.

It's a PR mayoralty. It's depressing because so much of his transport policy simply doesn't make sense, but very few are asking difficult questions. Apart from a certain Mr Dismore, mind. And you win today's Forum prize for amazing understatement! Unfortunately this Mayoralty seems to be obsessed by a price led policy on public transport and a somewhat misplaced assault on the key delivery organisation. There is always scope to improve efficiency in an organisation like TfL but it has already been subject to 8 years of cost side pressure under Boris. This saw a number of valuable initiatives, including bus priority, scrapped and that's partly why we have the shambles on the bus network today. As I have said before the fares freeze is utterly misguided for such a long period and especially when inflation is rising. The maxing out of TfL's borrowing facilities is also quite a dangerous strategy given the wider economic position and the link between the ratings agencies' view of government finances and those of TfL. This is an inextricable link that TfL can do little about. The Mayor could (and should) have adopted a different approach on fares and ticketing that would have been far less damaging to the network's short to medium term propsects. Again I do wonder if he actually understands what he is doing.
