Just had a tip off from friend (that gets this warning info) that within a week likely to snow problems (weather warnings not yet released), so treat this as Heads Up Specifically : Saturday some sleety stuff, any snow will be marginal and on higher ground (disruption unlikely) Tuesday : Troughs will bring bands of snow, some very heavy and intense. Upper air temperatures very cold so snow may sit on salted roads without melting (will require moving traffic for salt to work). Expected to fall faster than can be plowed at times. Note rare reference to plowing (not spreading) Amounts of snow cannot be determined until nearer the time due to unusual synoptics Very cold air from Scandinavia/Russia/Artic expected for least a week from Tuesday so presumption snow will just melt away should not be made at current time. Might be one to keep an eye on Interesting. The BBC have switched on their whizzo new Weather website from MeteoGroup today. Not showing London currently being affected by that weather next Tuesday. The graphic for the UK's weather does show a front coming in from the west but it peters out before it dumps any real snow on the London area. Of course, it's the weather so it will probably change 20 times between now and next week.

A lot of uncertainty about any snow next week. It looks as though Eastern coastal areas will see some snow showers from Sunday evening onwards, some might make it in to London. I think ice will be the biggest problem in the capital. The breakdown to milder weather may be interesting later in the week though.
As Snowman suggested, even small amounts of snow can stick around if the air and wet bulb temperatures are below freezing. A sub-zero dewpoint (wet bulb) temperature can even allow snow to settle on wet surfaces in the right conditions.

The updated BBC Weather website, being phased in slowly, doesn't show much in terms of any lingering snow for London and SE. There is some uncertainty around Tuesday's forecast but it looks like any front coming in from the west will be smashed by the huge Scandanavian high pressure hanging over the eastern half of the UK. The forecast cold weather is why I hate February - always the deceptive month. Longer daylight but the weather is so often dire.

Totally agreed, in fact statistically February is the coldest and snowiest month of the year for the UK.
The big unknown is caused by the computer models not being very at forecasting convective showers that can form on an Easterly. It's a bit of a "nowcast" situation.

Right now, damp, no real sleet, a little light rain in Tottenham. Not ideal to be waiting for a new W4 in, but it will be warmer than Tuesday
