Thanks very much to Mr. Snowman for hosting the quiz and taking the time to make it all happen. Top stuff! I was quite pleased with my result as I could have gained a lot more points quite easily. I was hesitant to put Westbourne Park on Q2 as it's the name of a bus garage too and might be more in the minds of people. With the Tramlink question I deliberately didn't pick Birkbeck as being probably the most obscure one, could be one people went for. I used the opposite logic on the K5 level crossing though and it backfired massively. I was pretty surprised how many people put it..... With Q6 I was originally going to put the 401, and glad I didn't. Also me trying to be clever cost me on the Blackfriars Bridge question! I thought that the 388 - having been discussed on here a lot recently - was a bit of an 'obvious' choice so people wouldn't put it! Another wrong turn.....same with Q12 I had a feeling that I shouldn't put the 365, the surburban nature of it being one people could pick. Using a mix of thinking styles for each question (as you can tell), it half worked I suppose - there were various questions where I changed my mind last minute before sending in, some for the best, some not so....... Thanks again Snowman for that, great fun, cheers! With the Tramlink question, I thought the Croydon & Wimbedon stations were too obvious and just plumped for one of Elmers End or Beckenham Junction - glad I avoided Birkbeck though lol. I too was going to put the K5 but then took a gamble on the mobility 969 which I knew travelled through a level crossing and it paid off. Again, was going to go the 388 for Blackfriars Bridge but the recent discussion put me off it so I just chose my local option the 45. As far as I'm aware, anyone can do a quiz - I look forward to your quiz should you decide to do one.

Seeing how many people took part this time, the penalty for a wrong or missed answer may need to be higher, otherwise you might get more points because everyone decided to pick Birkbeck again when you would have been better off getting it wrong!

As far as I'm aware, anyone can do a quiz - I look forward to your quiz should you decide to do one. I've had a think today about some ideas but I wouldn't want to post so soon after the last one - and I'd want a memorable date (such as the last day of the month - a la the Christmas one) as a closing date. Probably mid January (a two week lead time on it for closing) seems sensible. Plus there's the business of checking and double checking the information as if there's any mistakes - at least someone on the forum will spot it

Choosing questions is a bit of a balancing act, you need variety to attract more people, but need to pitch the level sensibly. Make it too hard people won’t enter, And as has been discussed by others, the Birkbeck answer was unexpectedly popular which made results more interesting. Look back through Quiz thread, some other formats have also been done in the past. Look forward to next Quiz, whoever chooses to do it. If someone else gets in first, caould always do an Easter or summer one.

8) A bus route that crosses Blackfriars bridge N89 : 3 points 1tocanadawater, paulsw2 & snoggle N63 : 4 points Green Kitten, RandomBusesGirl & rgd976 45 : 5 points 725DYE, craigbus1982, Hassaan, ob1234 & vjaska 63 : 7 points galwhv69, kmkcheng, Networker93, rmz19, TR*, twobellstogo & Zubin434 388 : 10 points Alex, arj, busocculation, DT11, EastLondoner62, john, RT3062, selondongal, TA1, & The Urbanite Just spotted this: why did N63 folks get 4 points each and N89 did receive 3, even though both routes attracted 3 respondents?

It's me, I was the name who was left out. If you cast your keen eye towards my score, I actually received 60 points instead of 68....but hey ho, it's just some fun during the holidays. Not too fussed considering snowman was all on his lonesome setting questions and totting scores. I have no problem throwing my hat in the ring for quizmaster's assistant.......maybe after one more quiz first though. Still gutted that I could've easily come first if I didn't rush myself handing in the answers on New Year's Eve!!

Wise words, there's a bit of an art to quizzing. Your quiz was fun as the questions were easy to understand and maintained the gaming element of a Pointless quiz - which is not only to come up with an answer, but picking a unique one. Plus plugging the quiz was a good idea. If I bothered to do some research for the railway crossings question, I'd have definately been first place! Something was screaming in the back of my head to jot the 111 down at Hampton but it would've been too obvious I felt. Should've gone with the 216 instead Heavens, the gap in my bus knowledge is showing!! It featured in a previous forum quiz several years ago - at the time most, if not all were covered in the answers commentary though some may no longer qualify. Whilst part of the fun of these quizzes is not looking up any answers, there's nothing wrong at all with getting inspiration, as it gives more opportunity to get a less obvious answer! On this occasion I didn't do that and lazily went with answers related to where I live, work and ones that were so obvious I hoped nobody else would pick them! Trivia questions like this are my favourites as you can learn new things about the network, but can be quite hard as some features are quite obscure!

Trivia questions like this are my favourites as you can learn new things about the network, but can be quite hard as some features are quite obscure! What you've put with not looking up any answers, is exactly what I was thinking with Pointless August 2017 (quote from that below): I didn't think research would come into it......the impression I had was it had to be all memory, akin to the TV show contestants standing in the studio and doing things on the fly. I think there was a definite tactic of 'don't go for the big ones' which backfired quite a bit on a few questions! Such as nobody picking Go-Ahead for question 2, or the 38 for question 3. Such is the nature of the game I suppose. This time I still did from memory but taking a bit longer to think about it, and I must admit there was inspiration from topics on this forum (such as the 388 route for example). I've taken on board what everyone has said about hosting quizzes, both with the timely nature of them as well as setting questions that are accessible whilst giving the brain a good stroll. I'm still thinking of sticking something up to finish this month off - I know it has been commented on that the timing may be a bit premature but to be honest I want to use it as a 'dry run' just to host one and get a bit of an insight. Nothing too heavy, I'm thinking sticking at a round 10 questions on subjects which should give a level playing field (as opposed to level crossing - K5!!!)

Apologies for double post but I was daydreaming about how to do 'The Chase' (using a previous Pointless winner or nominated big forum poster as 'The Chaser'), thing is, the four contestants and Chaser would all have to be online at the same time (as would the forumer acting as Bradley Walsh, with a load of questions saved up to 'copy paste'), and the thread would end up incredibly long in a short amount of time . Plus doing a final chase with a 2:00 time limit over the internet doing individual posts might be a hard one to govern too! I think Pointless is a really good choice, though in reality I'm a 'The Chase' man (only since November though when my brother told me to watch it), this quiz set up works really well on this platform. Plus, with the other idea, not saying we're unsporting types or anything, the person could be Googling the questions at the other end , Pointless definitely the way to go.

Maybe something to consider for a forum meet? Mused that too me old urban matey, it could be done but would take a lot of work before, loads of questions to write out before (as you can't gauge how fast people will answer) and would probably need to be done in a quiet bit of a pub (or if we had use of a back room or something). To do the format of the TV show it would take ages...... You could always reduce the cash builder to 30 seconds, final chase to one minute etc but it would still need loads of preparation. Gathering my final thoughts on a 'dry run' Pointless voyage, may indeed update in a few days

Seems a silly question but can anyone host a quiz and post it up? Looking at the previous quizzes we had Christmas 2017 from Snowman, summer 2017 from astock5000, Christmas 2016 from guybowden, Christmas 2015 from bigbaddom. I don't mind doing something like that if I have a spare hour or two to set the questions P Yes, anyone can organise the Christmas Quiz
