Not sure I think there is a depot at Abbey Wood but might be wrong. There are sidings at Plumstead but I believe these are for stabling only and not able to deal with maintenance requirements. Aww then I guess that means no chance of even opening in sections. The saga continues!

Seems like the line has now been delayed to an Autumn 2021 opening for the core and the full line is expected to open December 2022. This is joke now! It does seem a shame they cant even attempt to open Abbey Wood to Canary Wharf earlier as I believe all stations are complete or very near. I don't know if there is a crossover at Canary Wharf to allow trains to turn from Abbey Wood. I guess they could have trains run light over Thameslink tracks then go via London Bridge to start from Abbey Wood. However would it even be worth it running trains for 4 stops from Abbey Wood to Canary Wharf.

wirewiper , Spot on, heavy maintenance of the 345's takes place at Ilford and Old Oak Common. Even in the event of the core opening in some kind of skeleton shuttle service, trains would be able to access the core from those points albeit under possession conditions as they do at present. capitalomnibus , On the core you have a trailing crossover between Tottenham Court Rd and Farringdon, east facing crossover at Whitechapel, a pair west of Custom House and a trailing crossover east of the same location.

Can't help thinking that Thames Valley commuters will find the 345's as a bit of a downgrade, what with the lower seating capacity, lack of toilets and initially short formations. Whenever I've travelled on them, I've found them to be rather drafty too. I dare say TfL will initially receive a few complaints about the use of these, but that'll all be forgotten once the core section finally opens! When I told my dad, who commutes for work between West Drayton & Ealing Bdy about his new trains having less seats and no toilets, I got the roll of the eyes! But it reminds me I've only my next set of rest days to get what is probably my last chance to get a bit of 'classic' 165/166 action on the Thames Valley! I will find the 345s a huge downgrade, wholly inadequate for long distance travel, metroising the Reading stoppers won't go down well for the reasons you mention. I would much rather have a comfortable 387. I'm going to learn the times of the Didcot stoppers so I can still get 387s at Ealing Broadway. Spoke with the old man last night about how he's finding 345's, his reply, baring in mind that he'd had a few beers "Like being in a f**king cattle truck" He reckoned a few people he's got to know on his commute feel the same way. He also couldn't fathom out why 'against the flow' GWR serivces still stopped but not 'with the flow' services. But as he'd had a few, I didn't bother trying to explain why! Least like you, I get to choose my journey times, avoiding them as much as possible!

I see Ilford station is having a slight rebuild!
Whole front pretty much demolished with a new temporary entrance on Ilford Hill.

To be fair I'd take a 345 any day against the 165/166s these same commuters were dealing with only a few years ago.

Are these station upgrades (+Ilford) late or additions to the Crossrail upgrade? I know Manor Park was finished some time ago. If any station needs a upgrade I'd say Maryland looks very dated.

Additional entrances at Ilford and Romford are subsequent to the initial project I believe. Maryland's upgrade was completed last year (see below) and looks noticeably better than 'One' railway days. - source Wikimedia Commons

They got rid of most of it on the platform.
