It seems the London Vehicle Finder team are expanding their horizons to Trams, Reading and Edinburgh.

Hi,
I would like to wish you all a Happy Christmas and New Year.
This year has been a busy year for the LVF team with the servers being relocated to Leeds and the daily hits reaching towards 20,000 most days. Many thanks to Thomas for managing the hardware side of the enterprise. We added Reading Buses to the area covered and that will no doubt raise some challenges in the future as they spread their wings. This has also increased the amount of effort to manage Facebook groups and many thanks to Richard and Jack for their assistance.
Well Christmas is nothing without the giving of presents and a not very well kept secret is that we now have Lothian data and this will be put live today. A better kept secret is that this implementation also includes Croydon Trams. With the Trams it is fully integrated into London so entering West Croydon (or indeed any other tram stop that has a similar named bus stop) will show the trams passing as well as the buses. Well that was the theory and has been tested as such, but this afternoon the TFL interface has decided to stop giving us this data…. I don’t think it will be resolved during the holiday period. You can still do vehicle, route and eta queries. Apparently the trams only have just one overall ad and this will now be entered into the database…. It will appear in the zb list just the same as any other london vehicle.
zb works for Reading and will do for Lothian once I have entered the vehicle info.
For the shortcodes that are location dependant then these will only work while that location is selected and no doubt we will create similar codes for Reading & Edinburgh.
When we introduced Reading we created a new URL and front page. With this implementation we will keep the 2 front pages (London & Reading) but both systems will be able to see all the data. To switch modes the mode command is used followed by LDN for london, LRT for Edinburgh & RGB for Reading eg “mode LDN” and “mode LRT”.
New operator codes are RGB for Reading Buses, CTL for Croydon Trams, ECB for East Coast Buses & LRT for Lothian Buses.
I will be updating the help page with all of this info.
The outlook for next year is that we are investigating the possibility of more areas being covered. Many thanks to Mark/Keith for gaining Reading and Simon for his efforts to bring Lothian on board and look for further operators. For next year watch this space…..
Enjoy
Brian
