I've managed to get a train to Grange Hill when there was so service G.Hill - Leytonstone I believe, due to a "person on the track" at Barkingside. It went away to depot after setting us down.

A bit off topic, but a rare destination that I have not seen in about 12 years until late last night. "This is a central line to South Woodford." Yes, saw that a while back (when I was at Stratford) when a signal failure in the Woodford area meant that trains were detraining at South Woodford, and going ‘the back way’ into Woodford 21 Road (a siding with two ends, normally used by the Hainault - Chigwell - Woodford reversing trains). Then presumably either reversing via 21 Road or the stabling sidings. It certainly got my attention too, I hadn’t seen it on the front of the train before then! Managed to see ‘Holborn’ on the front of a train (to reverse at British Museum) and managed to see ‘Tottenham Court Road’ too. I would have to check but I don’t think British Museum is used anymore so those are a couple of ‘lost’ destinations now...... Central is a more interesting line than most for destination displays, some that might be seen as more ‘odd’ like Ruislip Gardens, Debden, Newbury Park, North Acton are in the timetable on a very regular basis each day. Stuff like Marble Arch and Liverpool Street are common on engineering works. Still never managed to catch a ‘Queensway’ or ‘Bethnal Green’ though.......... I remember a few years ago during rail replacement work at Leytonstone, there was a branch service operated between Woodford and Snaresbrook. It then made me wonder if the blind display in the cab can be programmed to show any destination.

The list I have is: West Ruislip Ruislip Gardens Northolt Ealing Broadway North Acton White City Queensway Marble Arch Tottenham Court Road Holborn Liverpool Street Bethnal Green Leytonstone South Woodford Woodford Loughton Debden Epping Newbury Park Hainault Hainault via Newbury Park Hainault via Woodford Grange Hill via Woodford Woodford via Hainault EDIT: I know a few years ago you could still show North Weald and Ongar too - I took a photo of a train at Woodford Sidings displaying the latter destination! That's something I would have to check though, can't see why they wouldn't be available still.

I’m fairly certain (considering the stock is even older than the 95s and 96s on the Northern and Jubilee lines respectively) that they use keypad codes to show the ‘TD’ (train description). Only known termini would be used so the list already given by Alex would be comprehensive. Even the S stock uses codes for TDs but this is disappointing given the technology available on this stock. No good when drivers know they have to ‘tip out’ mid-route!

I was on a Central Line the other day heading towards the City from Mile End and surprised to see and hear that my train was going to Hainault via Newbury Park despite travelling in the opposite direction 😂 , I would of thought that a automated TD and announcement system would be in place by now like what we have with Ibus or on the DLR where the information is sent from a computer in a control room or something and the driver doesn't have to do anything. I Don't think the North Weald and Ongar destinations would still be on there after they updated the system and announcements few years back but I do remember seeing them years back on stabling trains at Woodford , similar to seeing Brunswick on DLR trains at Poplar

Was there a Theydon Bois turn on the 62 stock Not as far as I know - but there were quite a few issues over the years. If you scroll to the bottom of this page www.trainweb.org/tubeprune/Dimensions.htm#Destination Signs on Trains ,there is a last issue 1962 stock list, and some other historical destination blind lists too It is a pretty old list though. Submitted in 2000 according to the page, the 'new' C stock list certainly isn't the last one they had.

Although they say the Victoria line is the noisiest on average, it appears that the Central Line has the noiseiest section. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-42791299One section I will never forget as a kid is between Bank and Liverpool Street where the train makes relatively sharp turns with the squeaking of the wheels on the line.

I know what you mean about the Bank to Liverpool Street section where it curves around the bank of England vaults as well as various building foundations. I've noticed some drivers on the Bakerloo Line wearing ear defenders.

The Bank station stretch is still loud, but not as loud as it used to be. That section before it enters Bethnal Green around 30 seconds before the station is extremely loud droning noise. It seems to have started around 2-3 years ago and nothing has been done since. Don't know why it has taken this long to get anyone's attention.

That loud section in the Bank section of the Central Line is on a curve where friction between the wheels and track make a loud screeching noise due to the curve. The Bakerloo Line also has this issue just after Paddington Station s/b, although to a lesser extent. But now there is another noisy situation which occurs on the Jubilee and Victoria Lines as far as I'm aware. On the former it currently happens on the approach to Baker Street Station on both directions, but it is more prominent s/b. On the latter it happens n/b on the approach to Green Park Station. Not sure what causes this.

Not sure what causes this. On the Jubilee, the southbound noise on the approach to BST that you mention is like a rambling sort of noise. It’s different to the squeal of the Central at Bank and I think the reason for this is that the tracks at Bank camber into the platform with the curve so the squeal is the wheels trying to go straight but contacting the rail on the outer curve. The Jubilee makes its distinct noise I believe because there is no camber on the bend and is downhill, so the train doesn’t ‘sit’ as much

When I was on the Central Line a few months ago, travelling from Oxford Circus to Shepherd's Bush Green, there was a section of tunnel where a loud roaring noise occurring for about a second as the train was doing about 30 to 40 miles per hour. Unfortunately I can't remember it's exact location but may venture again on that section next time I'm in Central London

>>> That section before it enters Bethnal Green around 30 seconds before the station is extremely loud droning noise. It seems to have started around 2-3 years ago and nothing has been done since. <<< That's the bit that runs virtually underneath my flat! I thought the rumbling of the trains had got louder of late. Although to be honest, I don't notice them most of the time. The line seems to curve slightly there, and I wonder if the rails have been relaid which is why the noise has increased.
