Oh dear Geofftech is annoyed about the announcement. Look at the responses to his tweet - lots of other people just a tad incredulous too. Looks like this is turning into a "massive fail" on the part of TfL. Wonder how long it will survive?

I wonder if popping the PA on when one stops will prevent the new automated announcement? I hope there’s some way to stop it since it’s us drivers that will be moaned at by passengers hearing it for the umpteenth time 🙄 A driver did that yesterday but where the PA system takes longer to time out the name of the next bus stop wasn't audioably announced. Also, everyone could hear the indicators through the PA system, which to be honest was more refreshing compared to the 'annoyingly repeated' announcement.

Finally had the announcements on the bus I’m currently on and yes it’s very annoying. Funniest moments was on two separate occasions where the announcement played as the wheelchair ramp was deployed.

It's obviously not perfect but I'd hardly call it a massive fail. Yes it's mildly irritating but no more so than the other repetitive announcements. No other passengers seemed remotely bothered about it on the buses I've been on.

It is a massive fail. Shows up the sheer waste of money and resources on this crass patronising stupidity. Shows TfL to be completely out of touch with reality, throwing resources at irrelevancies and profound irritants which will have no benefit whatsoever to safety, quite possibly the reverse. Demeans the brand. The proliferation of pointless notices and stuff like this simply creates white noise and diverts attention away from any actually meaningful information.

I was merely remarking on others' reaction and what that might look like. It isn't compulsory to disagree with everything I put on the forum you know.

First heard this yesterday afternoon on a T on the 197 which only played out just before the next destination was read out. Been on all the buses I've been on, playing about 5 seconds after the bus pulls away from the bus stop, except for once on the 185 as it was about to pull away from the bus stop.

Just been out and about on route 69 and 147. These new announcements are very annoying and slightly amusing when the bus has already started moving before it kicks in.
This is worse than those doors closing announcement from many years when the 257 went single decker.

Having had my customary trundle to Ilford and back I have encountered the announcement for the first time. As with any announcement people are annoyed by it until it becomes background noise - remember we have had all this furore before. In fact we had people going spare about I-Bus when it first launched out of Tottenham Garage. Now no one complains about it.
The main issue with this new announcement is that it only works properly something like 25-33% of the time. There are far too many instances of it playing when the bus is still at a stop with the doors open and people waiting to board. Similarly too many instances of the bus already moving at some speed before it plays. I even had one instance when it played as the bus actually stopped at traffic lights not long after the bus pulled out from a stop. I don't think TfL will remove the announcement because of the strategy it is part of. However its operation needs to be fine tuned or put under the control of the driver for use when there are standing passengers.
