Load of poo to be honest. There is not a great deal of bus drivers just leaving from one company to the next and those that did, previously did not face a loss of earnings. I am surprise the pathetic media gobbled it up, mainly BBC as usual the PC mayors bandwagon. How the hell is it a landmark deal for 25,000 bus drivers, like they are all going to swap company tomorrow, it is one of the most stupidest things going. "Licence for London" my ass! I would like to know which bus company in London pays experienced drivers with 10-15 years experience the same pay if they joined that company as a freshy driver. Virtually all the companies I know pay top rate or would have a slightly lower than top rate, but would go to top rate after 1-3 years. It would be no way a brand new driver rate. Why don't they do features on the lies of the mayor with all his cuts to outer services and central services.

When I saw the salary it did raise an eyebrow. Doesn’t seem that much at all, even as a minimum.

We clearly have very different experiences of the bus industry in London. Every driver I have encountered in 9 years in the job who has moved company has come in on the bottom rate. Not sure how the mayor supposedly being ‘PC’ is in any way relevant.

It also keeps operators on their toes that bit more (bearing in mind the never ending shortage of drivers) that they can up and leave and go and work for a competitor without having to start from the bottom should they wish to do so. I'm no great fan of Mr Khan but he does get a lot of unfair criticism on here.

If you move to Go-Ahead at some garage, they were willing to pay top rate, even to drivers that didn't have a year experience yet but had the PCV licence. Metroline were also doing the same. Arriva had put drivers on a slightly lower than top rate, but was not the bottom. plus £1000. CT plus were offering top rate.

I joined metroline in 2010 @ £12.14ph It was one of the highest payers of starter rate with the licence. Arriva were offering £10.51ph then, wood green was my first choice. 4 years on I'm still not on top rate at Holloway. Holidays, sick pay are still less. I have another year to go!

If you do not do your research before hand then you would always come a cropper. If you do not believe me you should have check out many of the company websites or phone them and see how. The only people to gain is those fired from companies that would go to a bottom of the barrel company who would pay low starter rates, there are a few of them out there. There is very little to gain from this as usual with this mayor and his half truths, same way as he is saving Londoners money freezing fares, when the majority of regular users would not benefit as they use a travelcard.
