Just curious have any buses ever been blinded for a new route that was then canceled before being launched. just a minor one but the Y-reg Tridents at BK carried blinds for the N169

Yes, 187 used to be DD, and saw frequent DD appearances under London Traveller / Metropolitan Omnibus / Thorpes. I don't think it's seen a DD since First won it in 2004 though.

The 187 can take DDs as there are no restrictions along its route, at least that I know of anyway. The 187 has seen DD workings in the past before it was awarded to Thorpes with SD VSs, with Ailsas making rare appearances on the route. IIRC Metrobuses have been on the route every now and then though I maybe wrong as I was too young to remember. I would say the 187 warrants DDs in the peaks and Sundays, though it's debatable if a conversion would be practical as its frequency would need to be reduced from an already relatively modest x12 mins.

Ailsas?? Can't think of any circumstances where Ailsas would have appeared on the route. The DDs that appeared during the London Traveller / Thorpes era were mostly Metrobuses. Towards the end of Thorpes operation there were occasional appearances by the ex-Grey Green B10Ms - the odd-looking things that had started off as SD coaches then been rebuilt as DD buses for the 141 contract. Thorpes bought a few of those off Arriva in 2002.
BTW it was London Traveller who won the route, not Thorpes. Thorpes bought out the Metropolitan Omnibus (formerly London Traveller) operations in 2002.

Yeup! It must've been a fleeting occurence but I remember seeing them on the 187 ages ago when I was at Primary school, I was so desperate to get on one when they were operating on the route albeit very seldom. I recall the awkward interior layout, high lower floor, strange blinds and stiff ride. Though I can't remember if it was the variant with the rear doors at the back or in the center. I was lucky enough to get on one even if it was a short ride from the far end of Kilburn Lane to Queen's Park. Yes I'm aware it was London Traveller, but my memory can only trace the route as far back as when I used to see the word 'Thorpes' in a large yellow stripe on the side of the Volvo VSs

Probably has the N133 but VLA57 was blinded for the 690 to Mitcham at the garage today whilst I was walking past

The B10Ms that appeared on the 187 didn't have a variant with doors at the very rear. It was one of the Ailsas (V3) that had an experimental layout with two staircases and the exit door at the very rear. But no Ailsas ever worked the 187 as far as I'm aware.

DH's on the 69 have Stagecoach WH sets so they have all WH DD Routes (including the 115 & 147) that were there in 2015 plus the 5, 15, 86 & N15.

Oh d*mn....so it was a B10M all along! I stand corrected Thanks for the info No idea why I got the two confused, though to be fair they do look somewhat similar at a glance. I have to say it looks very...interesting, those who like it certainly have an acquired taste with its unusual wheelbase, tiny rear overhang and asymmetrical windows. I believe its unproportional appearance was down to the fact that it was a rebody of a Plaxton Coach by East Lancs. I much prefer the Citybus variant the 24 used to have when operated by Grey-Green ages ago. Nevertheless, I'm quite pleased I experienced it even though I was too young to fully appreciate it.

No problem! I've got to say, "interesting" is by far the kindest thing anyone's ever said about the looks of those things It was quite a shock when they turned up on my local 188 back in the day. I did manage to ride one on the 187 once - quite a hairy ride round the back streets of Harlesden / Kensal Green.

Although I didn’t see it myself, I was told back in the 90s the Ms at HD had 258 on the blinds in anticipation of winning it but in the end they never did win it.

I remember once seeing a Shepherd's Bush based Metro on either the 94 or 220 with its rear blind partly showing 12. If I remember correctly the depot had done short workings on the route between East Acton and Oxford Circus with Routemaster, this being prior to the introduction of the 94 and the changes which then occurred to the 12 and 88.

It’s 667 according to the video. I’m gonna assume they come from ex First London blinds since Im pretty sure it was a trend for First to pretty much put a lot of blinds from other garages. Also both routes were operated by First in the past.
