Can anyone who has used both indicate any significant differences between the two operators for a medium distance (200 miles) daytime journey? I have always used National Express but times are hard and for my London-Leeds journey in early July, the £3.75 Megabus fare was somehow more attractive than the £11.50 National Express fare. I find that National Express operate its most basic vehicles on this route (no WiFi and no charging points) but I assume my Megabus will be better equipped.

I would not last 200 miles in the type of leather seats NX use, so Megabus for me personally Not sure what they use on the Leeds route but the Van Hool Astromegas on the Cardiff routes I use have been very comfortable for me, and no heavy, constant rattling like both Levantes I've used. In my experience Megabus tend to get to the destination on time more often, or 15min early in the case of my last journey! But then again they are given around half an hour longer to do London - Cardiff. As for WiFi and chargers, neither operator's WiFi has ever worked for me and both have had functional charging points so I'm not of much help there

National Express's Skimmer Pass offer is now seemingly available to UK Citizens. It offers varying periods of unlimited travel on the entire National Express coach network, as long as you reserve a seat beforehand. www.nationalexpress.com/en/offers/skimmer.aspx

May book a week off work and sample other networks.

I didn't know they offered a network pass even for non UK passengers. Only small problem is relatively low frequencies on some routes and risk of traffic delays. Haven't used a scheduled coach service since my student days.

I have to agree, I used the 203 down to Portsmouth as part of a little day trip (well three day the whole thing takes but thats another story) to France, not only was it fairly expensive, it does a massive loop via Winchester and Southampton taking around 3 hours. It's just motorway, motorway and very dull and exhausting, plus the seats aren't that comfortable.

The cheapest from London to Portsmouth used to be the 030 which went direct from Victoria, mostly non-stop. This was, of course, back in 2009/2010 and then I switched to megatrain from Waterloo which no longer exists under South Western Railway.
