Not to mention that bus usage is bad in Surrey, even worse than areas like Kent & Sussex were significant investment has helped stem some of the lost patronage. Well yes exactly - going past massive houses with 3 cars on the drive, there's no real wonder why bus usage in the area is low.

As the Arriva Guildford operation is a bit out on a limb for Arriva, I wonder whether they might sell it to Go-Ahead? There would only be minimal overlap in Horsham. Ironically, Drawlane bought Guildford to supplement London & Country, but subsequently Arriva sold or closed the whole of L&C (apart from absorbing some London routes into their main operation) yet kept Guildford!

Stranger things have happened, but I cannot see Go-Ahead move into this part of Surrey. If Arriva were to move out I would think it likely that the routes would probably go to a smaller operator, or possibly Stagecoach, who have been doing well in this corner of Surrey of late.

While the CMA might not allow Stagecoach to buy Arriva Guildford, I agree that Stagecoach could be in the running to take up such routes if Arriva close down there. Mind you, as Arriva have some 64-reg Sapphire Streetlites and 17-reg E200-MMCs in the area I reckon they want to stay in the area.

Sorry, but I disagree that Arriva want to stay at Guildford, I think it is much more likely, the newer buses or premium routes are a last throw of the dice, if it works (as in makes the Operation profitable) then might stay, if not will be closed down. The Garage site is worth quite a bit, and buses can easily be moved elsewhere. Guildford is not easy area to make money (except the routes to university and hospital), traffic can be a pain, and most other areas have fairly scattered catchments which means they don’t generate economic leadings. Abellio gave up in the area, Safeguard might take couple of routes, buses etcetera have couple of routes, as do some other independents (although I think most of these are social routes that Surrey subsidise). Can’t see GoAhead or First being interested.

I agree though puzzled by the Abellio mention as didn't they operate the 515 only in Guildford with its core network centered on the area between Heathrow, Staines, Walton & Kingston?

I've been thinking about going on one of the services that go into Kingston one time just something different than the usual tfl network. For anyone who has been on any of these routes which one would you recommend?

I’ve the the 715 from Kingston to Guildford a few times under stagecoach and when Abellio run the route as the. 515 it’s a nice route to do although I must say I prefer the route now it’s run by stagecoach the vehicle choice is they use is certainly a lot better than the old Abellio buses

If you are purely looking for a pleasure ride, the 715 is infinitely the better choice, both for vehicle variety and for scenery.

I've been thinking about going on one of the services that go into Kingston one time just something different than the usual tfl network. For anyone who has been on any of these routes which one would you recommend? 715 is a fantastic route, 513 is interesting as it only runs twice a day and the 2nd journey of the day towards Kingston operates via Hampton Court. 458 is interesting if you can get the Omnilink or one of the Hotel Hoppa E200's with the larger engines on it, but beware, Hallmark don't win any awards for timeliness! Other interesting cross surrey border routes: 420 (Sutton-Redhill/Gatwick (Crawley on Sundays only), usually with Omnicity DD's on it, occasionally single deckers 442- Heathrow T5- Stanwell Moor- Staines- Very strange getting on a Sprinter from one of the worlds busiest airports then quite a rural setting of Stanwell, then back into urban Staines. Also worth noting is the Quality Line H1 route from St Helier Hospital to Epsom Hospital which has a flat fare of £1.50 however cash only (under contract to NHS)

Make a day of it. Buy a Discovery ticket from your 715 driver (£9) and that will take you all round Surrey and neighbouring counties on most operator’s buses.

White Bus have taken delivery of two new Enviro200 MMCs for service 446, 64 (YY69TLV) and 65 (YY69TLX). These replace existing Versas 64 and 65 (YJ14BBU/V). Two existing older E200s will be released from service 446 to service 01. flic.kr/p/2i35yv4
