I think the thing that peees most people off is the constant deflection of the question by just saying, new trains would be introduced in 2030. I really don't know why they can spend millions on other pathetic stuff, ie. but yet when it comes to the "creature comforts" they always turn their back. It is not just on the Underground, the same goes for buses. I remember around 20 years ago they were saying it was impossible or not possible for a/c trains on the Underground, yet we are now told that they can do air cooling on deep tube and now the surface stock has a/c. In reality its a matter of not wanting to spend. The same thing with buses why we have had lack of opening windows previously, then we finally got a substitute of air cooling, but then there is nothing in place to ensure air cooling is working on every bus. I am sure air cooling can be retrofitted to the central line. It would have made more sense to have done this than to waste millions doing up the class 315 to be in service with new interior for less than 5 years then to be withdrawn. www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/twitter-qanda-about-inhuman-heat-on-the-tube-backfires-as-tfl-admits-no-air-con-on-central-line-until-early-2030/ar-BBL1tpC?li=BBoPWjQ&ocid=UP72DHP

That's something I've never get my head around they spend money refurbishing and repainting or re vinyling trains which are going to be withdrawn soon , it makes no sense whatsoever same as the station signs on the Shenfield route do they really need to be changed to then be changed again when the Elizabeth Line starts running ? The Romford - Upminster branch does it really need a New train running on it , the little Central London tube map on the tube trains has been changed to show tfl rail from Paddington it's going to be changed again once it starts running fully there is literally so much waste .

Of course many cyclists and those who were previously afraid to cycle will say otherwise. Whatever money is spent on there will always be somebody saying that it could be spent on "something better"!

Not sure of the background story but I always thought the D stock refurbishment was a waste considering they were withdrawn a few years later.

Suppose so in a way however they had another 10 years use I believe , the 315s got refurbed in 2015/16 I believe and are starting to be withdrawn now and they had not long had a refurb under NXEA .

I wonder how many people have altered their journey to use the air conditioned S stock? Using the District Line rather than the Central Line from places like Mile End and Ealing Broadway for example.

Sounds like frustration is the only thing being vented on the Central Line ....
I'll get my coat (not that I need it right now).

I wonder how many people have altered their journey to use the air conditioned S stock? Using the District Line rather than the Central Line from places like Mile End and Ealing Broadway for example. As someone who uses Ealing Broadway as a gateway to Central London and is often my returning point from bus trips, I certainly alter my trips in hot weather. From Liverpool Street, I always opt to take the Hammersmith & City Line, then GWR/TFL Rail (all stopping trains have aircon now). If I'm travelling to somewhere around Victoria or Westminster, instead of changing from Northfields at Earl's Court I do it at Acton Town now. For South London, instead of using the tube I go down to Brentford on the bus and then take the South Western Railway train even though Piccadilly>Victoria is usually quicker, on the rare occasions where the former line is functioning properly. Pretty much anywhere on the Central Line between Liverpool Street and Notting Hill Gate is doable by taking either a cooler line or a bus to Paddington. White City to Ealing Broadway is probably the most annoying journey in terms of finding a cool route, but what I sometimes do is take a 94 to Turnham Green then use the District Line. As for places East of Stratford, even though the last part might involve the Central Line, I always take GWR>H & C>TFL Rail then change where appropriate, sometimes that being Ilford if I need Gants Hill, Newbury Park, Barkingside, or Redbridge. Here are some examples and yes, many people who are comfortable with transport also do the same thing. I've seen people at Ealing Broadway get on the Central Line, gasp at the heat, then come to the GWR platforms if a train is arriving. Yes, these methods are often longer, but if I need to do something at the other end, it's much better to have left slightly earlier and feel good upon arrival, than being drowned in misery after the heat and ultimately not doing what you've been assigned to the best of your ability.
