Dealtop (Plymouth) Ltd, the company behind Target Travel which had its O-licence revoked three years ago, has gone into liquidation with debts of nearly £500,000. Documents filed at Companies House on 9th August showed that the company had assets of just £29,000. Apart from the managing Director, Robert Risk, who had a £250,000 stake in the company, HMRC are owed over £120,000 whilst NatWest Bank is owed over £31,000 and a private company over £25,000. Target Travel lost its 40-vehicle O-licence in 2018 for untaxed vehicles. It was granted a licence for a reduced fleet of 23 vehicles on appeal, but finally had its licence revoked in January 2020 after a series of issues. These includes operating vehicles on scheduled services that were not PSVAR compliant, failing to display an O-licence disc on a school run, and misappropriating funds that had been used to show financial standing, including a large deposit on a football team coach. Both the company and MD were banned from obtaining or holding an O-licence for two years. www.route-one.net/news/disqualified-target-travel-goes-into-liquidation/Note: Dealtop (Plymouth) Ltd is a different company to Dealtop Ltd,. which continues to trade as normal.

The aforementioned Robert Risk was previously owner / operator of Robert's Coaches, Plymouth, who ran an eclectic fleet of mostly midicoaches of European manufacture. Western National bought the business, though whether out of administration or as going concern I cannot recall. Robert Risk became a manager with WN until he was later made redundant by them in a slimming-down exercise some years later. At which point he founded Target Travel and ironically gained on contract some work WN had chosen to shed or lost on tender.

New service registered by Stagecoach in Plymouth. Service 30/31 Royal Parade to Royal Parade via Mannamead and Peverell. Is this a mix of the old 31 (Stagecoach) and 39 (Citybus) subsidised services withdrawn at the start of this year perhaps? Starts 30th October.

No but it is registered as new service on VOSA. Only received date of last Friday so I assume more info will come shortly, although I do sometimes find Stagecoach to be a bit lacking with communication. Tbf though on the last changes for September info online from SC was excellent!

On Wednesday 11th October, Stagecoach operated Park & Ride services 300 (Yelverton Airfield) and 301 (Whitchurch Down) for the annual Tavistock Goose Fair. Stagecoach has announced a few timetable changes effective the weekend of 28/29 October. Routes 21/21A/21C group (Ilfracombe/Croyde-Barnstaple-Bideford-Westward Ho!/Appledore): minor timetable changes. New Saturday night journeys will operate between Barnstaple and Bideford departing Barnstaple at 00.00 and hourly to 04.00, returning from Bideford at 00.30 and hourly to 03.30. On route 155, the 07.27 North Molton-Barnstaple will be duplicated from Landkey on schooldays. Route 90 (Dartmouth-Townstal): new timetable with an earlier first journey into Dartmouth on Mondays to Fridays. Routes 91 (Dartmouth Park & Ride): withdrawn for the winter season - last day of operation Sunday 29th October Route 95 (Exmouth-Sandy Bay): reduced winter timetable operating Monday-Friday only. Route 122 (Hoburne Devon Bay-Babbacombe, open-top): withdrawn for the winter season, last day of operation Saturday 28th October. E1/E2 (Pinhoe-Exwick): additional Sunday journeys between Exeter City Centre and Exwick. And as mentioned above, Stagecoach will operate new circular routes 30 and 31 (Plymouth City Centre - Peverill and Hartley Vale circular) from Monday 30th October. Following changes to BSIP (Bus Service Improvement Plan) guidance Plymouth City Council is able to use its funding to support these services, which replace route 39 and part of route 31 which were withdrawn at the end of December 2022 and will bring buses back to roads that have been unserved since then. Each route operates hourly during Monday-Friday shopping hours (30 clockwise, 31 anti-clockwise). www.stagecoachbus.com/promos-and-offers/south-west/south-west-timetables

Does anyone know if Stagecoach are continuing the £2 price cap single fare scheme in South West until December 2024 as the website has not been updated as yet?

Does anyone know if Stagecoach are continuing the £2 price cap single fare scheme in South West until December 2024 as the website has not been updated as yet? AFAIK it's only Taw & Torridge in the south west who are not offering the £2 cap. Note that the cap does not necessarily apply to routes started after the scheme was first introduced (although some operators are honouring that after making changes such as Brighton & Hove across East Sussex with their BSIP-funded enhancements) nor to community bus schemes.

The 875 bus route, which latterly operated one return journey between Bigbury-on-Sea, Modbury and Ivybridge on Tuesdays only, was withdrawn after Tuesday 7th November after Oakley's Coaches gave notice on the contract. On retendering Devon County Council received a bid that was considerably higher than the cost of providing a Fare Car, given the expected demand for the service.
Fare Car F7, which operates from the Bigbury and Challaborough area to Modbury and Ivybridge on Fridays, now operates additionally on Tuesdays and is extended to Lee Mill Tesco if required. Fare Car must be booked the day before. ENCTS passes are now accepted for free travel on Fare Car F7.

Good to know Fare Car lives on. Most were withdrawn some time ago. In some areas a fixed-route timetabled service has been restored (such as Bradworthy - Holsworthy) but in others there is now no alternative provision.

And from First Kernow across the border www.firstbus.co.uk/cornwall/plan-journey/christmas-and-new-year-bus-times-20232024Basically a normal service for each day of the week other than no services on 25th / 26th December nor 1st January and earlier than usual finishes on those routes which otherwise offer an evening service on 24th and 31st December. There are very few First Kernow commercially-operated routes on Sunday evenings anyway.

What would be interesting is a comparison of bus usage versus bus mileage. Yes bus usage has fallen dramatically to the point where the rural bus is a threatened species in many areas where it still survives. It is no longer relevant to many people because it simply doesn't meet their needs running so infrequently and inflexibly. City bus mileage has also fallen and use has also declined but which is the chicken and which the egg?
