Are Buses ETC and Coaches ETC under different licenses? yes, they are under different licenses. I have been only able to trace the one licence PK1078393 for Croydon Coaches (UK) Limited t/a Coaches Excetera ... that is the licence the bus routes are registered under. Is there another?

I am surprised that RATP or Stagecoach haven't leapt into the 479's void with a replacement service of some sort. Seems slightly bizarre that a main route just disappears overnight. We will have the bizarre situation that it only runs on Sunday because that's a contracted SCC service.

Quality Line did have a go at the 479 when Countryliner went belly up in 2012, operating a free service while they applied for a registration. However at the same time Sunray also started running on the route, using ex-Countryliner vehicles (and drivers?). Eventually the TC accepted Sunray's registration over QL's one; Sunray only lasted a year before withdrawing, at which point Excetera (who had been competing on the corridor with their 489) took over.
I can imagine that QL might not be too keen to try again, given the history. It might be a good fit for Stagecoach though. Of course this all depends on whether anyone thinks they can make money out of the service.

Croydon Coaches (UK) Limited are Coaches Excetera. The bus side hasn’t run off that license for some time. That was run off ‘BETC Ltd.’.

RATP could run some extra trips on their existing 408 between Epsom and Leatherhead , but it’s all a commercial risk. Can’t see them bothering to be honest. Surrey just isn’t a bus county at all.

Many thanks ... so presumanly the coaching side remains unaffected?

That's fair enough - depends what return they want. Seems odd that Buses ETC somehow managed to run a core x30 min Epsom-Bookham service with x60 extension to Guildford as a commercial venture. There were also special school jnys that appear to remain uncovered.

Special arrangements were made to get students home last night. As of this morning (Tuesday 11th March), school routes are operated by the following companies: 43 Cranleigh - Godalming College: Safeguard 45 Busbridge - Rodborough School: Safeguard 617 Banstead - St Andrew's School: Cardinal Buses 618 Walton-on-the-Hill - St Andrew's School: Go-Ahead London (Commercial fleet) 619 Lower Kingswood - St Andrew's School: Cardinal Buses 668 North Cheam - St Andrew's School: Go-Ahead London (Commercial fleet) There is no news yet of any replacement for routes 28 (Guildford-Woking) and 479 (Guildford-Epsom). Route 28 will be operated by Falcon Buses from tomorrow (13th March). It seems it will be a commercial operation, as their website refers to it as their 'new commercial service'. On the 479 timetable on Traveline, a note just states 'Route 479 will no longer operate'. Hopefully an operator will be found eventually!

Poor 479 passengers - I know we all slate TfL on here a lot but they would of got someone operating the 479 even on a temporary basis. Wonder if Metrobus is interested in it?

On the Surrey County Council website, they've admitted 479 won't be operating except Sundays (run under Surrey CC by Stagecoach):
"Buses Excetera ceased trading and operations on Monday morning 11 March 2019 479 Epsom-Leatherhead-Guildford: Not currently operating as no other company has yet come forward with a plan to replace it"
Currently the 478 (3 journeys Guildford-Leatherhead, 2 journeys Leatherhead-Guildford) covers the general routing of Leatherhead-Guildford that the 479 mostly covered. It's a very limited Surrey CC service operated by Reptons. The Epsom-Leatherhead section is mainly covered by 408 with a generally hourly service except evenings, and some journeys cover up to Effingham.
Traveline are currently quoting a minimum journey time of 1hr 41mins between Epsom and Guildford now the 1hr 10min 479 has disappeared. Some results are quoting upwards of 2hrs, and a detour via Kingston. Leatherhead-Guildford is currently quoted via Cobham (408) or via Dorking (465-32) when the 478 isn't running full route.
Meanwhile, the 28 will be operated by "plan while ADL E200MMC vehicles" (direct quote from their website) as a "short notice change supported by Surrey County Council". The 28 and 479 were commercial under ETC, and I'm presuming will be under Falcon/whomever takes 479.

I wouldn't be so sanguine about that, remembering the shambles with the 60, then the 42 and (particularly) the 185 with failing or failed operators having to be replaced. OK, may have been LRT then but the principle's the same.
