Yes it is being withdrawn on the 12th of October. so which route going from london bridge to walthamstow central? No route will be, take a 55 from there to Shoreditch and you can change for the 149.

Had a 20 mins chat with TFL just now about the 48 & 55 changes from 12 October.
As we all know it is true that the 48 is being axed for good.
When it comes to the 55, TFL said that all buses will run to Walthamstow Central.
Questions:
How will stand space be made for a route with a PVR increased to 40?
Will the rounders on the duties for drivers be reduced? I don't do the route at all but just wondering.
TFL think the reliability on the 55 will significantly improve.

TfL are delusional if they think the 55's reliability will improve with the Walthamstow extension. I still think it may be possible that we get some Baker's Arms shorts on the 55, that'd at least give people on Lea Bridge Road empty buses to fill up so the 55's running to Walthamstow aren't as overwhelmed

The crowding is also an issue.

I take it you got no answers to those questions, or none that were coherent anyway. Why not extend the route up to Chingford and make it even more reliable? LOL

Curious to who this chat was with? No new info ,I assume TfL Customer Service or have you got a hotline to the headquarters. Not having a go before you jump down my throat.

Was with a customer service staff member that I worked with before.

The extension should help with reliability as it allows for curtailments on that end of the route to be used. I'm assuming they currently can't be used as all changeovers are at the garage? (please correct me if I'm wrong). At the moment it will be the Oxford Circus end that will suffer at times of disruption as changeovers are at the end of route but with a mid route changeover point it allows for buses to be curtailed on the other end as well.

Well even after the extension the changeover point will probably be at Bakers Arms and it's only an extra four stops to Walthamstow Central so I doubt there'll be many Walthamstow to T journeys. It will certainly reduce reliability on the 55 that's for sure.

I take your point, but I wouldn't personally call that making the route more reliable: more a case of making the route equally unreliable at either end! I do agree, though, that it might be preferable to what happens now. Let's face it, then, in practice not every 55 will get to WC. but sod's law will dictate that all the buses get through at the same time the bus station is heaving with other buses. Better imo to schedule Baker's Arms starters in peaks, particularly a.m. I suspect this will happen, if only 'unofficially'.
