Had a 20 mins chat with TFL just now about the 48 & 55 changes from 12 October. As we all know it is true that the 48 is being axed for good. When it comes to the 55, TFL said that all buses will run to Walthamstow Central. Questions: How will stand space be made for a route with a PVR increased to 40?
Will the rounders on the duties for drivers be reduced? I don't do the route at all but just wondering. TFL think the reliability on the 55 will significantly improve. >>> How will stand space be made for a route with a PVR increased to 40? <<< Taking out the 48 removes six buses per hour at most times. The 55 runs every 7-8 minutes at most times so that is only an extra two buses each hour. This could be accommodated by cutting stand time (possibly increasing it at the Oxford Circus end). The stands at Walthamstow Central are rarely jammed full anyway.

TfL are delusional if they think the 55's reliability will improve with the Walthamstow extension. I still think it may be possible that we get some Baker's Arms shorts on the 55, that'd at least give people on Lea Bridge Road empty buses to fill up so the 55's running to Walthamstow aren't as overwhelmed They are not delusional. The extension should help with reliability as it allows for curtailments on that end of the route to be used. I'm assuming they currently can't be used as all changeovers are at the garage? (please correct me if I'm wrong). At the moment it will be the Oxford Circus end that will suffer at times of disruption as changeovers are at the end of route but with a mid route changeover point it allows for buses to be curtailed on the other end as well. How is allowing for curtailments making a route reliable? The aim is less curtailments, not more!

I only make very casual weekend observations in central London but spotted the 242 again today and its still carrying very light loads to and from Aldgate.
I have to hand it to TfL they are very cleaver at getting passengers to adjust travel habits. Much like the 25 it seems the ex route 67 passengers have adjusted to other ways of completing journeys.

Love the typo "very cleaver". That's exactly what has been taken to the network in places. To be fair Aldgate is not exactly a thriving hub on Sats. Might do better on Sundays with the Market and people visiting Spitalfields / Brick Lane.

I would love to see a Quadrant Bus Map of Central London with all the changes.

Yes so would I. Do they still produce them? Iv said it before but the network that we arrived at by 2006 was pretty much what I would have thought would have been around forever bar the 8/C2 change and the logical 15/159 change. We now have the 6, 13, 23 down Park Lane and the 73, 82 and 436 removed from there aswell. I would never in a million years have imagined that 10 would be withdrawn plus the 436 pulled out of C London effectively severing the last Lewisham to West end link.
Even small changes like the 3 being cut from Oxo I wouldn't have seen coming.

I would love to see a Quadrant Bus Map of Central London with all the changes. Mike Harris still produces the Greater London bus map, which also includes a Central London map as well, which can be bought. It was last updated on 15th June which was when the big changes happened. www.busmap.co.uk

As mentioned, Mike Harris produces excellent maps which can be purchased from his site - I’ve got the current one and it’s very useful especially with the recent changes.

TfL too ashamed to produce one lest someone makes unfavourable comparisons with the last one? Spot the differences - harder, perhaps, to spot the unchanged routes.
