Meanwhile Gloria Estafan sings about everyone's fave North London Bus Route - 1-2-3 <iframe width="24.200000000000045" height="2.980000000000004" style="position: absolute; width: 24.200000000000045px; height: 2.980000000000004px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 15px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_31686697" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="24.200000000000045" height="2.980000000000004" style="position: absolute; width: 24.2px; height: 2.98px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1149px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_42622961" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="24.200000000000045" height="2.980000000000004" style="position: absolute; width: 24.2px; height: 2.98px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 15px; top: 90px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_50312300" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="24.200000000000045" height="2.980000000000004" style="position: absolute; width: 24.2px; height: 2.98px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1149px; top: 90px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_62747889" scrolling="no"></iframe> Let's see, 123- trying to place that one. Oh, yes, I remember, Ongar to South Hornchurch isn't it? i saw one once I think, they insisted on putting Chipping Ongar on the blind for some reason. Serious question: i don't know the Gloria Estafan track but I well remember a big hit by the American Len Barry in the mid 60s of that title - is it the same one? Just curious.

The later version has Gloria Estefan and E Garcia with the writing credits (source - Discogs database)

Just changing the angle of connecting popular music with London bus routes, I wonder how many songs actually correctly feature a London bus route in their lyrics. There are only two I can recall. From about 1973 David Essex had a single called 'If I Could'. It is a slow romantic ballad and the lyrics include 'Can you picture us on a number 9 bus to Canning Town'. Now by 1973 the longstanding penetration of East London by the number 9 on Sundays had ceased, but I presume David Essex or the writer were recalling their youthful days in the Canning Town area and remembered the 9. Before Eddie Grant went solo, and even before he had hits with the Equals in the late sixties, he had another group called The Pyramids. They released a brilliant single called 'All Change for the Bakerloo Line'. It includes lyrics such as 'If you want to see the town take the 159', and later references Piccadilly Circus and Madame Tussauds'. The song comes complete with a conductor going around collecting fares! I think the song was released in 1967 and got some plays on Radio Caroline.

I can't immediately think of any reference, but maybe someone more creative than me can come up with some new ones? Strawberry Fields swopped for Strawberry Hill maybe?

When the S1 contract renews 1 Dec, will be first route to have used euroVI buses for a second contract, that were 100% euroVI from new (rather than upgraded)
The Metrocites were euroVI in 2014 at the time some Operators were still buying euroV buses
I can’t remember exactly why, but I think the OMs started about April 2014 so haven’t done a full 5 years yet.

Stagecoach London operate routes 61, 161 and 261. This '61-group' could be operated from one garage if the 161 moved from PD to TB.

Back to the musical bus routes. Apparently Princess likes the Number 1. She also rides around London on an open top bus and there are glimpses of RMs and Metrobuses. The Regents like the 17. Warning - a certain Mr Savile introduces this clip so you hear his voice. And Paul Hardcastle is positively ecstatic about the 19 And there is this singing bus video on You Tube featuring a Harry Belafonte classic. And astonishingly there is a Southern Vectic bus song too. And this Punk record by the Worms called London Bus (I can't take my eyes off you). Recorded in Stamford Hill of all places. There is actually a song that was recorded in the 80s about London Buses but I can't find it again. I saw a copy for sale on Discogs months ago.

Wikipedia has its uses sometimes - I found '35 Bus' by the Menace, who I think were a Sham 69 type band. Anyway, it's listed under 'London Songs' on Wiki, so take their word it's Loughborough Junction's finest it refers to.

X26 : I'm gonna be 500 miles (Okay so this one is in German (It's an advert song for the BVG (the Berlin equivalent of TfL)) but still feel that it works for a lot of routes) "Is mir egal" (translates to I don't care) which is the attitude of at least a few drivers on lots of routes youtu.be/YEYim54pJ00
