Short answer is no. More pathologically inept garbage from the DfT and Cuckoo Brain Grayling.
We need a mass programme of electrification so we catch up with the best railway networks elsewhere in the world. That German train is a one off demonstrator. There are no firm plans for DB or anyone else to buy loads of hydrogen trains. We are lumbered with a politician who goes "ooh shiny new things" and is entranced by them because he doesn't understand that boring old established technology can deliver improvements far faster and far cheaper. Heck it took us 3-4 years to get a few paltry tram trains and a bit of track built in South Yorkshire. Elsewhere in Europe they've built whole networks of tram train services in less time.
