I go via Croydon (interchange from 450 or 468 to Wimbledon tram at East Croydon) a few times and I find it a mess at this point. Can there not be 1 central bus station where ALL routes terminate unless they are passing? So many stops and stands now its confusing Hear Hear!
It is a mess with all the stops and stands. I've been to Croydon many time syet its still a disorganised mess and some better cohesiveness between routes is needed for me, at least having bus routes crossing the town centre minimised difficulty of interchange, but now its increasingly harder to reach routes like the 119 when coming from north of Croydon. Its a joke!
Personally I always thought it was a big mistake withdrawing the 119 from West Croydon, and I speak as someone who still remembers the route terminating at Barclay Road, near East Croydon station. The later Thornton Heath extension was ill-considered imo, making the route too long to operate well, but WC was the natural terminus, and I think still is.

The 198 from the north of Croydon does the same job as the 119 as far as Shirley.
Nowhere to put a central bus station and West Croydon is a full capacity. I think there are far more confusing places than Croydon...............Romford and Kingston for example.

What's planned for the Fairfield side of St George's Walk ... Probably the land will be miles too expensive. Be good for 50,75,197,405,412,433 ... then send 109 back to its old stand, get rid of 3 on street stands. You could then extend the 450 and put the X26 into West Croydon BS ... My chance at playing at fantasy buses! 😂🤣😅

Probably a pie in the sky idea to be honest.

The underneath space is needed for shop deliveries I was thinking more of a surface level bus station with the shopping centre above it but it's all a bit fanciful.

I don't think it is. First pick up on the 405 and 412 is Flyover. 197 is both sides of the road of the Fairfield Halls and the 50 picks up at Fairfield Halls then along Wellesley Road. According to the tfl spider map the 405 picks up on Katharine Street but not the 412. 197 doesn't serve both sides towards Peckham, just the shared stop with the 119 etc. 50 does what the 75 does so serves both sides of the road at Fairfield Halls I walked past this yesterday and the first pick up point for both the 405 and 412 is Katharine Street. Though there is no shelter at that stop!

I agree that the lack of a shelter is terrible but the implementation of these Croydon changes has really been abysmal.

I was told it’s just the 109 stop with the first 405 & 412 stop being at the Flyover so who knows. Regarding a shelter, there has never been one at this stop at least since it was used by the 197 & 264 up to last year presumably because only the 264 actually picked up here and didn’t see many people use the stop with most using Park Street instead.

Nobody seems to know for sure about the new stopping arrangements including drivers. The lack of a shelter didn't matter too much previously as very few people used the stop but now with 405 and 412 passengers it gets a lot more use. I would have thought TfL could have forseen that and installed a shelter but clearly not.

I have to say assessing the Croydon Town Centre bus changes two months in. I think these changes have been quite positive for the area. West Croydon bus station seems less congested with its current crop of terminating routes than before. People have adapted quite quickly. I’m sure routes 60 and 407 have become even more popular due to their cross Croydon links and also the frequency increase for the former and the double deck conversion of the latter. One of the rare examples where TfL changes were for the good.

I agree with this but one thing they still haven't sorted is that the apparent last stop for route 197 is Park Street when the buses just go direct to the stand at Fairfield Halls. Croydon Town Centre looks more of a dump then I have ever seen it though and I do hope the Westfield development starts soon.

People shouldn’t have to adapt though especially when a number of routes have been cut short of their important destinations particularly the 405 & 412 - I personally wouldn’t call it positive and the changes besides the 60 & 407 don’t exactly attract people to the town centre. Be careful what you wish for because TfL will likely go further in the future if they see further endorsements because it’s very clear that bus users are 0% importance in any changes.

We will have to agree to disagree on this. Routes 405 and 412 still reach Croydon Town Centre which is in itself an important destination. From my observations most people get off at West Croydon coming from the north and Croydon Town Centre (Park Street/ Croydon Library/ Croydon Flyover) from the south as people like to walk through the town centre to get their destinations i.e shops and banks etc. Of course, I agree in most cases that TfL do not prioritise bus users in their consultations i.e route 48 but in the Croydon bus changes consultation it was clear that were they conducted in depth research in bus usage across Croydon and came to quite insightful conclusions. This was evident by the willingness to change some of the changes which were originally proposed.
