113 - Another one for nostalgia reasons - when me and my dad used to drive from which was home (Potters Bar) through London, usually to Peckham, we used to follow the 113 all the way to Portman Street from Apex Corner. Doing it on a bus for the first time was absolutely brilliant. Loved it on EWs TEs, much less so on weak TEHs. I think a ride on the 113 with a VMH will be very fun and I hope to try them out when I have time. The TEHs were good but for me, they made the route lower down in my ranking. I personally think that the VMHs are better than the TEHs but are not as good as the Euro IV/V TEs.

The VMHs seem to be like a better but not top TEH, I was a little disappointed by the VMHs as I was expecting it to be more like a TE and it wasn't. The route is really best suited to the TEs rather than any of the hybrids.

I also feel that the VMHs are limited as the drivers that would normally reach 50 in a TE/TEH seem to not be able to or decide to stop acceleration at 40. I had a driver who did 53 in a 60reg TE, 40 in a VMH and 50 in a TEH. I had TEH1106 today and that was unable to accelerate past 25. The route is good its just the vehicles that occasionally let you down.

If so perhaps what the 113 needs is a set of new TEH MMCs...only it is not going to get them!!!

All I think is if they are limited they should have their limiter removed.

My favourite routes:
128 - Just because it goes via the Brewery instead of Rom Valley Way, but it’s also nice at Barkingside, sad that Ilford hurts it a lot
173 - Fast all the way between Beckton and Dagenham is quite nice when the A13 isn’t clogged like public toilets, and the part from Dagenham to Chadwell Heath is nice
174 - Eastbrookend looks nice, as well as parts of Harold Hill, overall, nice
247 - It’s a nice scenic route all the way through, going through Barkingside, Hainault and Romford, and the view at Hainault Forest is really nice, since it goes through the nicer part of Redbridge
287 - It’s the only route that traverses the Barking and Dagenham/Havering border that doesn’t go to Romford, while going through Rippleside, some speed on the A13, through Dagenham and Rainham, ending near the border with Essex, a nice route
296: Feels like a trio of routes including the 86 and 128 going from Ilford to Romford in three different ways, but the 296 is nice as it goes through Newbury Park and Marks Gate, as well as Romford itself, and the speed of the A12 is pleasurable
368 - It’s just a pleasant route, passing through Mayesbrook Park, and through northern Becontree
497 - Even though it’s a new route, the Kings Park development has paid off in its favor, being a really nice view, although Hilldene Avenue brings it down a bit, it’s still a really nice route
EL2 - From the industrial wasteland in Dagenham Dock, through the neighbourhoods at Becontree, it’s a really nice route compared to the 5, especially as most people just use the 5. If you want a more relaxing route from Barking to Romford, use the EL2, then just use the 128/175, a much better alternative to the 5
My least favourite routes:
5: This route is almost always cramped, or just boring, because it is a potentially great route, but overuse brings it down sadly, with highlights being Canning Town and Romford, its termini
86: Lots of the routes west of Ilford just make me feel sad, as well as the 25 and W19, but it’s pretty bland for most of the way, while touching the sadness that is Manor Park

I know a lot on here have a lot to say about it, but the 173 has always been one of my favourite routes. It was,.however, much better when it was operated by Grey Green using Volvo Citybuses and ran through to Stratford. I also love the 287- I've never driven a bus,(or a car, can drive a train though,) but if I did, I think the 287 would be the route I'd go for. I also dont mind the 368, it's much better now its run with DDs. When I lived in Barking I used to hate sitting on the 5 all the way up to Romford, and would often get an EL2 and change in Becontree Heath. The best route from Ilford to Romford was the 247, albeit it took ages. I now catch the 174 a lot of the time from Heathway towards where I live now, again, really good route and a lot of the drivers like to put their foot down through Eastbrook. Other routes I love- 179, 238, 262, 275 and for some strange reason, W14 The only routes that really bores me to tears are the 62, 101 and my most used route- the 366

What have you been smoking ? The diesel fumes must be getting to you haha. Out of the 60+ routes I’ve driven, I’ve never once been so wound up by passengers, poor drivers and the utter scum than on the 287, hated the route, and tbh during the day I don’t get why it doesn’t run every 15 so it can run on headway

149 or the Crackhead Express is probably the worst route in London, it's certainly up there on Tfl data for incidents. Twice some of my old colleagues were punched and knocked out when they were awaking sleeping passengers. I once had a man come on my bus with bare feet, a duvet and baked beans in a tin. He made everyone feel very uncomfortable and his odour ultimately led to telling him to leave which he did in all fairness.
People don't take a second look at the driver, its one of those routes where you literally have to laugh or you'll get angry. I advise everyone to take at least one trip on it, you'll have a laugh honestly. Its madness all the way, especially the Edmonton to London Bridge section.
My favourite route back in the day was the E3, when it had the TNs and DNs, it used to be thrash all the way from Acton to Chiswick. Not scenic at all but a vital link between two neighbouring boroughs.

When I did it end to end my bus was stopped twice by revenue inspectors and non-paying passengers (aka free riders) on both occasions (5 each time). And this was between 1-2 pm!

I drove the 370 for many years and i have to say loved it but lots of drivers hated it mainly because there was constant delays or awkward passengers. I drove mainly double decks starting with dla’s then vla’s and finally the dw’s but enviros cadets and darts joined in!
I love the el1/2/3 and the 86 also the 247. Miss the tridents though ☹️

Thanks for that. I was going to consider riding it . Are the first couple of stops towards Woolwich fast? That would be the only reason to go there, because to get to that side of the route is hard from where I am There are so many worse routes than the 96 - try the 109 for starters. I hate the 109 with a passion! I used to live in Streatham and I worked in Croydon so this was my route as it was quicker than the route 60, after a while I decided to to get the route 50 as it was far more pleasant
