Even if the 25 was reinstated to Oxford Circus I doubt the passengers would return to the route sadly. I do wonder how much of a impact this has had on low income passengers forced to use the tube.
The 25 should be more reliable now but seeing lots of Aldgate turns (1 showing on LVF now and see one in the bus station this afternoon)
I agree and in fact, now the damage has been done in Central London, I see the network continuing to be slowly dismantled in Central London before ceasing to exist in the next 5-10 years. I can see a scenario where all buses terminate on the edges of Central London and merged into other more suburban creating long, unreliable routes. Those people won't return and the poor, elderly & young will be effectively barred from Central London - call it TfL's version of gentrification if you like. Moving away from that, I always thought the 25 should of been retained but maybe split into two overlapping sections - maybe an Aldgate to Ilford route and then a Oxford Circus/Tottenham Court Road to Stratford route with the latter being less frequent than the former. Just a thought - if buses are effectively refused access to central London we'll be back to the nineteenth century when the railway companies were prevented by the Duke of Westminster and Howard de Walden estates, etc, on encroaching further.

Or 25 from Ilford to Aldgate / bank / St. Paul’s, and a limited stop X25 from Ilford to Marble Arch would have done the trick

Many of them would have used other transport modes or change jobs. The whole reason why they were using the 25 was down to cost. In the case of trying to keep within Oyster hopper fare, I could imagine some would change at Bow to get the 8 so they fall within the 1 hour category.

Despite its length amazingly I never found the 25 to be unrelieved in the Oxford Circus days. Turns to Bow Church from Oxo were fairly rare as were ones to Tottenham Court Road. Compared with other routes, the 25 had fairly few curtailment and buses seemed evenly spread.
