Doubt he would have been popular with the managers!
Perhaps once he made the wrong turning, he went into panic mode. Feel sorry for him, as i've known drivers lose jobs over things like this. But he should have noticed the signs!

But he should have noticed the signs! It does look as though he hit the panic button, he should have stopped and assessed the situation and if necessary radioed in. He's turned a fairly innocuous mistake into something far more serious.

I feel sorry for the driver, but I was shocked that once he hit the first bollard he just continued until he forced his way round the corner.

Sometimes, it’s more a case you can’t see any other way out, so better to get the pain out of the way and deal with the consequences later. That incident will most likely end his career with them, as the publicity and damaged caused will be higher than acceptable. Although a pain, and embarrassing, the driver should have stopped, radioed in, and let his superiors deal with it. Still a disciplinary, but would have more likely been some kind of warning verbal or written, instead of job loss. Panic does do some strange things to people....

Yes, just taking a wrong turning for whatever reason is just one of those things, a bit embarrassing but nothing more but the drivers subsequent actions have compounded matters considerably. It looks like there were passers-by trying to assist him as well?
