New operator Abellio gives staff smart watches to run trains on time The Daily Telegraph, 21/06/2019, p.3, Oliver Gill The paper highlights some of the plans Abellio has for the East Mids franchise. These include giving smart watches to hundreds of train staff to help make the trains run on time. Management positions will also be put under review and they are 'considering options' to move from the network's Derby headquarters.
Nice to know they can afford to blow that sort of money on these expensive gadgets. Surely a clock that’s linked to a system that shows the same time everywhere there’s a link, (ie computer/phone/etc) would be cheaper to install. Even without this, it surely can’t be that difficult to work out what the time is. Clocks have only been telling the time for the last couple of hundred years. If they’re timekeeping is really that bad, should they be working/ operating in such an industry?
