Really the Chatham Main Line is due an upgrade because of the volume of trains trying to get to Victoria. The line isn't going to be fully quadrupled any time sadly but what I would like to see is another passing loop to facilitate better frequencies at stations such as Sydenham Hill, West Dulwich, Beceknham Junction etc. without slowing down faster services. The junction just north of Brixton to Voltaire Road Junction is a horrible two track bottleneck. That section is already four track so I wonder if sending some services via the Overground lines could alleviate overcrowding on that stretch - it may well be problematic though with any delays resulting in loss of paths on an already busy line

Had traveled on the Rainham service today.....boy it’s slow, I mean really slow, people in the Medway aren’t exaggerating about how slow the service really is, it’s woefully unattractive, it’s not as if I saw many people get off at the new stations it calls at, such as Slade Green or Plumstead or Deptford, I did see a fair few get off at Woolwich Arsenal presumably for the DLR, and also at Greenwich, it’s bad enough the CML has virtually become all stops to Bromley South.
Something has to be done about speeding up the service, it should call only at key stations, I even told my friend who lives down there and he said it’s all to do with forcing more people onto HS1 which takes people to the wrong side of town, the City and the West End is where people want to go to.

During the day it also comes to / from Dover Priory. There should be two stopping trains per hour between Medway and Victoria via Denmark Hill with the additional train starting at Sheerness and calling at Queenborough, Kemsley, Rainham then all stations to St Mary Cray, Bromley South and Victoria. May be one of the Maidstone East line trains per hour could call at Beckenham Junction, Penge East and Herne Hill.

Given how intensive it is , very few opportunities for improved frequencies. I would ask for earlier trains on Sunday’s across all lines.

West of Dartford, stopping at Slade Green, Abbey Wood, Woolwich Arsenal, Charlton and Greenwich is plenty imo.

I spoke to someone who works for Southeastern recently and he agreed that the Thameslink service to Rainham is far too slow but he said it's all that can be achieved with the infrastructure available. Remove stops in SE London and it will leave those stations under resourced. Of course he fully understands the anger of Medway commuters over the loss of the previous semi fast service to Charing Cross but you just can't please everybody with such a complex network.

Im assuming the stations that would be under served would be the Greenwich line stops right? That’s why I would reroute the Thameslink to run via Lewisham rather than Greenwich, restore the fast pattern, and keep the Greenwich line at 6tph, Plumstead and Slade Green don’t need 8tph, 6tph is enough for these stations.

The Southeastern network is complex; a change I would like to see would be;
Metro
Via Woolwich
2tph - Cannon Street - Dartford via Greenwich 2tph - Cannon Street Loop via Greenwich (return via Sidcup) 2tph - Cannon Street Loop via Greenwich (return via Bexleyheath) 2tph - Charing X - Gravesend via Lewisham
Via Bexleyheath Same service as now
Via Sidcup
2tph - Charing X - Dartford (same as now or via Lewisham) 2tph - 2tph - Cannon Street Loop via Lewisham (return via Greenwich) Divert the TL 2tph - Luton - Rainham - with this service either via Lewisham or fast from LBG to Hither Green fast to New Eltham then as per Gravesend service of all stations from HGR (with 2 later services) - this would result in timetable changes as this service couldn’t run via Sidcup with the timings which was worked on by TL and NWR
If the Hayes branch ever transfer to LU then a extra stopping service via Grove Park maybe - 2tph - Victoria - Orpington
All other metro routes same as now 2tph - Blackfriars - Beckenham Junction service would be good all day depends on how they could work the timetable on all service (metro & mainline) through Herne Hill, I have a slight feeling in the future NWR May advise again on all Sutton TL all terminating at Blackfriars bay platforms and increasing all to 4tph on each branch which was originally proposed which could then have the Sevenoaks & Orpington’s running to/from St Albans with fresh stock for Sutton services maybe run by TFL
Mainline
Speed up the Charing Cross services to Ramsgate & Dover fast from Lbg to Tonbridge then either skip stop - stopping at Paddock Wood & Staplehurst to Ashford or fast from Tonbridge to Ashford 2tph - Charing Cross to Tunbridge Wells & Ashford (split at Tonbridge) And Hasting service as they are now

All Gravesend and Medway services would run via the Woolwich and Greenwich lines while the Sidcup and Bexleyheath lines would generally terminate at Dartford or he loop services.

If 12tph are planned for Abbey Wood extend 6tph to Dartford and Gravesend and 2tph to Rainham.

That would cause an unusual situation in which a TfL line will go further out of London than the national rail lines, when it’s usually the other way around. Also I doubt that the Gravesend CrossRail extension will happen any time soon, if ever, if it does it’ll probably be way down the TfL list of priorities after the Silvertown Tunnel, DLR to Thamesmead, CrossRail 2 aka Chelney line, Northern line split, Bakerloo extension, etc I’m guessing it’ll be the 2040s, early 2050s before we get anywhere on that front.

Crossrail is going to Reading which is about the same distance from London as Rainham in Kent. And Southeastern would still go to Rainham and beyond, just not via Dartford.

I suspect you’re largely right. There is also the GOBLIN proposed extension to Barking Riverside and possibly beyond. Of all the other proposals, I don’t think we’ll see Crossrail 2 or a Northern line split anytime remotely soon. Not even sure the Bakerloo extension will happen either. DLR to Thamesmead/Abbey Wood and Overground to Barking Riverside seem the only proposals to me railway wise that have any chance of happening soon, but this is all now way off topic.
