I too miss the old 10. It’s the first and only route I rode through Oxford Street under the Christmas lights at night. Same for me actually! Unfortunately for me, the 10 and 13 were my favourite Central London bus routes, with the other of my top 3 being route 24.. let’s hope that one isn’t next to be axed lol. I’d very often ride the 13 between Finchley Road and Aldwych (fell in love with its G2s the first time I boarded one!), and occasionally rode the 10 between Oxford Street and Euston (I’m a fan of NRMs and liked the unique routing of the 10).

Indeed, the 10's routing between TCR and Euston via Russell Square was great, and so much faster than crawling along Tottenham Court Road. I really wish the 390 were rerouted via Russell Square when the 10 was withdrawn, and it would've reduced overbusing on Tottenham Court Road thus alleviating the need to cut the 134 back.

I used to love the 416, operated by Armchair and LU at one point or another, between Stanwell and Kingston. I can see why the route was withdrawn but still enjoyed using it growing up.

Better still, 12 Harlesen, Willesden Junction to Dulwich. I thought it went beyond Dulwich back then. I'm sure it was still going as far as Penge in the early '90s. I've posted this before, sorry if I'm repeating myself. The 12 ran in two overlapping sections, 1) Willesden to Dulwich Plough, 2) OX to ElmersEnd Garage/South Croydon Garage Back in the '70's(I'll stand corrected if I'm wrong), the 'bottom bit' of the route south of Dulwich? was divided into the 12A & 12B Maybe someone younger than this old halfcab can enlighten us?

That must be right as the 12A & 12B were still running in 1990 as an old bus map I have shows this. I believe they were soon replaced by the present day 312 route between Peckham & South Croydon as well as the present day 450 running to Old Lodge Lane.

The 12B also replaced a Sunday service on the 166 to Chipstead Valley. That's why there would be sense of history if the 312 extends to Old Lodge Lane being part of the 12A that once ran to Old Lodge Lane via Selsdon via the 412 and only began at Norwood Junction.

Made an excuse to get out of the office the first Monday of the 12A running, hopped on a 36 (might even have been a 36B) on Grosvenor Place to Peckham, over to bus station/PM garage and on to a shiny new SMS, when the driver finally opened the door. Lots of unimpressed passengers moaning about waiting in the cold, something they never had to do if an RT had been there! For some reason I neglected to mention that I worked for the department of LT that had developed this Brave New World. Good driver iirc, which most of TCs were: got off at Forest Hill, back to Vic and a late lunch!

I would quite like it if the route still went to Shepherds Bush a bit of wishful thinking, it's obviously not feasible.

According to the LT Allocation of Scheduled Buses (October 1969), the 12 had these scheduled sectional workings in the AM peak Mon-Fri: Figures below are buses per hour. Harlesden and Dulwich 7 Harlesden and Park Royal(Trading Estate)12/8 Park Royal Trading Estate and Shepherds Bush 3 Oxford Circus and Norwood Junction 4 Oxford Circus and Forest Hill 4 Peckham and South Croydon Garage 4 Norwood Junction and South Croydon Garage 4 In addition to the above there were also scheduled odd journeys such as between Addiscombe and Croydon(Katherine Street). Shepherds Bush buses did not operate south of Dulwich and TC buses did not operate past Oxford Circus. Elmers End buses could quite regularly be seen at both Croydon and Harlesden as they had the biggest allocation of 47(TC 8, PM 25 and S 11), giving a total of 91. The longest through journeys operated on a Sunday between Shepherd Bush(Wells Road) and South Croydon Garage. At that time terminating buses at Wells Road used to reverse onto the designated stand outside the administration block as S, but for some reason on a Sunday the 12 would terminate inside the garage, despite there being no workings from S on that day of the week.
