Some of us kind of miss them. I imagine Boris wasted a whole heap of money when he had them withdrawn after just 9 years. I understand there were 390 of them in total. Attachment Deleted

View AttachmentSome of them are actually in Leicester working on U1, U2 and U3 which are essentially university buses. And I certainly miss them in London, they are among one of my favourite buses for sure.

I can't imagine many people outside of the enthusiast movement miss them and it's telling that many ended up dumped at various locations because nobody else wanted them. Brighton & Hove have a few which to the best of my knowledge is the nearest they get to London?

No pictures of them on Flickr after their London life which was just a mere seven years. Did they just end up dumped in like a field rotting away? Who owned them, either TfL (in which case they let operators dec them out with their respective interior), or the operators? If it was the latter I’d imagine operators weren’t too happy they couldn’t get any money for them and were stuck with them (unless they were paid for in the tender prices that is).

They were owned by either leasing companies or the operating companies ... whoever it was took a fairly large financial hit ... pretty why TfL ended up buying the New Routemeasters as neither the operators nor the leasing companies were prepared to take the risk.

Didn't some of them end up in Malta? Totally unsuitable for their narrow roads.

I shall duck while everyone shoots at me, but they had insufficient seats and only carried large numbers of passengers at the cost of passenger comfort - ever tried squeezing onto a rammed one!
They weren't terribly suited to London roads and I have vivid memories of the countless times they blocked box and other junctions due to their length, delaying other traffic, particularly other buses!!!

I won't shoot you, I very much agree with you. They're ok for airport shuttle services but other than that I think they're just more trouble than they're worth.

I agree although they did work well on the 507 & 521 due to the nature of both routes being short high frequency commuter routes which are quite uncommon routes in London.

I have a lot of nostalgia for the bendies. I have very happy memories of using them on the 207. However, they weren’t without their flaws. Open boarding will always be lucrative to fare dodging, and whilst bandies had loads of capacity, the lack of a top deck was a shame. The 207 could really benefit from open boarding now, as the route is overwhelmed with passengers, and tediously long dwell times, I don’t miss them though, and I have to say I much prefer beastly 17reg MMCs on the 207.

Lots of memories of these having a good old full kickdown thrash on the 25 ! I Also remember a white one with LED blinds being used on the 436 and a Red Wrightbus bendy being used on the 25 at one point instead of a Citaro . I think they were prematurely got rid of especially the 453s as they had a new batch in around 2008 , I think they had a place in London on the Red Arrow routes and maybe some Express type routes they could of been introduced on or got them aswell i.e 607 or a X25/X15 but yeah they definitely could of got a few more years use out of them to 2014 maybe and 453s case to 2018.
There are a few ex Stagecoach ones in Stansted doing the Car Park shuttles with private plates .

I wonder what would have happened had Bendies not been withdrawn by Boris. Would we have seen from contract renewals TFL pursuing hybrid ones (if they exist) or would tfl have returned to DDs (particularly with the drop in demand in Central London). Would a bendy 436 be running to Battersea Park now or a 73 just to Oxo with the crush loads out of Victoria being switched from the Artic 73 to DD 390). I guess only the 207 could still be using them as it's not required to be Hybrid but even those ones would have been 14 years old now.
