As sad as the story is, I really do not feel sorry for the person. If it were a child or someone with learning difficulties I would be sympathetic. But to stick you hear or any part of your body out of a moving train window regardless of in platform or on the railway itself is asking for trouble. Whether they were having a laugh, surely you must be aware there are serious consequences of doing this. Then the do-gooder society we leave in blames the train company for inadequate notices and tree not being pruned, even if there were notices, or a buzzer people would still do this. The same way how people walk through carriages on tube stock on Central line in places like tracks to Bank station where it is dangerous, due to the curvature than even doing it on a normal straight.
We then get the people that open the emergency exit on the bus at the offside rear whilst potentially in the firing line to be hit by moving traffic. It is people like this the reason why we do not get sliding windows on buses/trains and they have been in decline for years.
