Stagecoach East's services on the Cambridgeshire Busway will be relaunched in early 2020, when it reopens after a temporary part-closure due to bridge reconstruction work as part of the A14 road widening scheme. The work is due to be completed in mid-January.
Central to the plan is an investment of £5 million in 18 new vehicles. Twelve of these will be 13.4-metre tri-axle ADL Enviro400XLB with a seating capacity of 98 and licensed to carry up to 36 standing. These have a dual-door layout and will be used on route B. There are also six Volvo B8RE with MCV eVora bodywork for route A, which passes under low bridges on the southern section. The vehicles will be painted in a turquoise livery which is thought to be part of the new Stagecoach branding for its premium services. The first vehciles have already arrived and driver training is taking pl;ace along part of the Busway.
Because of the length of the new buses routes A and B will be swapped in North Cambridge, with route A operating via Shire Hall and Orchard Park and route B operating via the Science Park.
The Cambridgeshire Busway opened in August 2011. Initially Stagecoach operated two routes, A (Trumpington Park & Ride - Central Cambridge - St Ives Park & Ride) and B (Central Cambridge - St Ives - Huntingdon which replaced route 55), Since then the services have expanded; the A now runs to St Ives estates and one journey an hour extends south to Royston, whilst one B an hour extends north from Huntingdon to Peterborough. There are also peak time commuter journeys to various Cambridgeshire towns and villages. For several years these routes where joined by an hourly Whippet route C between Cambridge Rail Station and St Ives estates, but this no longer operates.

- What is wrong with the eVoRa? Not every route needs E200s (personally the original was nice but not much a fan of the MMC SD)

There's nothing wrong with the eVoRa, it's just that the Eclipses (the ones from circa 2006) should be replaced imo. I went on a Diamond one on NW route 22 in August, reminded me of the old Eclipses there used to be on the 161 (albeit single-deck)

I mean, there are E400 MMCs on the B, so yeah, I think they're wide enough to fit on the guided busway (correct me if I'm wrong).

Slightly off topic but similar, couldn't find another thread.
Stagecoach/Cambridgeshire Combined Authority are ordering 30 electric Volvo BZL double deckers for the Park & Ride network as well as the Citi2 route. The first order for them I believe. They received funds to do this in the initial ZEBRA announcement.

Whippet of Swavesey, Cambridgeshire, has secured an eight-year contract to continue running the "Universal" service for the University of Cambridge. The route is lettered U as it uses the Guided Busway for part of its length and has been operating since 2016. Although operated primarily for the requirements of the University the service is available to the general public.
The current service links Eddington with West Cambridge and the Biomedical Campus via the rail station and carries over 60,000 passengers a week. The new contract will see the route extended to serve Girton, Homerton and Wolfson colleges. The existing Euro VI diesel buses will be replaced with new zero-emission electric buses.
Whippet has also taken on three of the contracts tendered by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority following the withdrawal of Stagecoach East services.

The vehicles will have guidewheels for operation on the Cambridge Busway and will seat 44 with up to 26 standing. Source: Bus News - Week 19/11/22 (LondonsTransport Google group)

Stagecoach East vehicles on the Busway will have ISA (Intelligence Speed Assist) technology fitted which will automatically reduce the vehicle's speed when entering a speed safety zone. The ISA technology has been designed by Volvo Bus and is thought to be its first application worldwide on a Busway. www.focustransport.org/2023/05/new-technology-to-control-speeds-of.html

The Southern Section of the Busway has fully reopened. One direction had been closed between Cambridge Railway Station and the Cambridge Bio-Medical Campus since February 2022, to allow for a safety review after two pedestrians and a cyclist died on the adjacent pathway between 2015 and 2022. The pathway is now separated by a safety fence, and journey times for buses have been reduced to less than five minutes. At peak times, the diversion route could involve journey times in excess of thirty minutes. www.route-one.net/news/southern-section-of-cambridgeshire-busway-reopens/ Note: although the above article includes a photo of a tri-axle ADL Enviro400XLB on route B, double-deck buses do not operate on the Southern Section of the Busway due to low overbridges.
