I don’t understand about R, H routes etc..on my understanding R - 68, 70 represents Richmond H - Hounslow H - Harrow R - 2 etc ? (What does this mean) why R should it be O to represent Orpington or am I getting it completely wrong? R stands for Roundabout which is the name the network was given years ago, O would seem more logical. The problem with O is it will make the number simply say 1 as apposed to R1 in people's minds.

I think they avoided 'O' because it could be mistaken for the number '0', so they decided to stick with 'R'. Also, one anomaly is the 'E' network. All routes serve Greenford, apart from the E8. Whereas, in Ealing Broadway (the area the network is named after), the E3, E5, E6 do not serve it. I think 'G' would fit this network more.

Go Coach are very good at presentation of their buses, and other than school work, operate in a very tough area for bus travel. It’s quite interesting to look at old timetables back in London and Country days. The amount of buses on the West Kingsdown to Swanley section just seems absurd now. One link which is lacking is a direct Dartford to Sevenoaks service. Arriva did try with the short lived 403 but it wasn’t direct , instead going via Joydons Wood. A Sevenoaks to Redhill or Gatwick Airport might work if it complimented the existing route to Westerham. The A25 is a lovely route to take, it would be nice if you could travel all the way from Sevenoaks to Guildford via bus.

I guess 'E' refers to the borough rather than just the area.
The use of 'W' is another odd one. Several routes have no connection to anywhere beginning with 'W', e.g. W5, W6 etc.

There was an S7 for a few months but when planned to extend to Epsom it was later renumbered 470 when the extension happened.

The S7 was renumbered 470 precisely because people were confusing it with the 57 at Colliers Wood! Very different vehicle types of course, but if you were unfamiliar with the local network you'd have no idea what sort of bus to expect.

I think one of the problems with Arriva's short lived 403 was there was no advertising for the route anywhere. No leaflets or posters at bus stops, nothing. No route information on the buses. I remember standing at a bus stop in Swanley one day in late 2014 and seeing a tile for the 403. I had to google it to find out where it went as there wasn't even timetables installed. Route wise though between Dartford and Sevenoaks it would have made more sense to just go direct down the A225 via South Darenth. I'd like to see Go Coach attempt it. I also like the idea of a Sevenoaks to Redhill route, you could extend the 1 (previously 401) from Westerham to Redhill via Oxted and Godstone. Maybe even further than Redhill to Reigate? Another missing link from Sevenoaks that I'd like to see Go Coach try is to Maidstone via Borough Green and West Malling.

I had a ride on the 403 and a lot of people looked quite bemused when it pulled up at a stop and lot of questions for the driver about where it did and didn't go. Years ago there was a route 10 from Sevenoaks to Maidstone and onto Folkestone via Ashford.

I've just realised, this means there will be two different 3's at both ends of the 358 in both Crystal Palace and Orpington now. Will that not confuse someone? It’s quite a common occurrence outside of London for a route to encounter two different routes with the same number as local town services tend to use lower numbers so a longer distance route that connects a number of towns will encounter routes with the same number. For example, the 500 that runs between Watford and Aylesbury encounters a routes 8 and 10 in both towns. Doesn’t happen much in London really due to small number of cross boundary routes now. The only other one I can think of in London is the 167 which encounters the TfL 66 at Gants Hill and Herts/Essex 66 at Loughton and Debden
