Would anyone from Barking Riverside really want to go to Romford though considering Barking & Ilford are just one bus away and combined, provide similar shopping facilities? Not being funny here but if you'd been to Ilford and Barking, you'll realise that they are the cows backside of East London. Horrible areas. Romford is a much better location. 1) I’ve been to both places numerous times 2) Cows backside or not, neither place is hardly struggling with a lack of shoppers and as pointed out in my question, they have similar shopping facilities combined vs Romford. Stratford is the place in East London which would trump all of these places

Then you would agree that Vicarage Fields (and the surrounding shopping district) is in no way comparable to the Liberty in Romford. Therefore, the newly moved in folk at Barking Riverside would welcome a bus route out to Romford. 2) Depends on what you want from shopping centres, if you want cheap crap from pound shops, a multitude of vapes shops, cheap, tatty clothes, Barking is your place. If you want something half decent, head to Romford. Surely Romford is closer to Barking than Stratford?

Barking Riverside (and areas the proposed route passes through) is closer to Romford. Also there are a lot of people in Becontree that would appreciate a direct link to Romford.

I actually live in Barking and I have not heard of many people who actually go to Romford for their needs when Ilford is a few minutes away and if anyone needs a shopping centre you have Westfield. The comparison isn't Barking and Romford, but Romford and Stratford. 5 miles to Stratford, 6 miles to Romford.

That's why the 5 runs from Becontree to Romford. Barking Riverside's location by the A13 still means people pick Stratford over Romford. Heck even people in Romford pick Stratford over Romford.

For some reason I always think it is much closer than that. Deceiving!

I get that feeling too, I imagine it's because there's no actual direct road like you have with Ilford which is only 3.5m away despite Ilford is just slightly north of Barking itself.

Comparable to Romford, of course, I would pick Stratford over Romford.
As for those other two so-called 'shopping districts' they are not even on a scale.

And there is me the opposite who would rather jump on a fast train from Stratford to Romford in 8 minutes. Romford don’t have many shops now but beats the crowds of Westfield and a million miles better than Ilford.

But the point is if you need a local shop they both more than cater to your needs, if you need a bigger shop you go to Stratford. So why would anyone in the area want to go Romford?

No disrespect to anyone from the Barking area but the town center is awful and the area around the station is pretty bleak! I hadn't ventured to Barking on foot for about 4 years until last weekend. Ilford is now becoming very run down, the town center is struggling after losing big shops like Wilko and Debenhams a few years ago, it will get even worse when M&S closes in June. My local area around Canning Town is not much better despise all the new housing the local high street is run down. It's so bad that we are worthy of not one but three Greegs Outlet stores in the space of a few miles. How does a Greggs Outlet store differ from an ordinary one?

Basically they take the crap that people didn’t want at full price from other nearby stores and sell it reduced. Good chance it’s been poked, prodded and tampered with if it’s anything like the absolute horrors I’ve seen in greggs. Their website describes them as being in a read where social deprivation is high so just let it sink in that the only two in London are in Newham and Canning Town. There are quite a lot in Glasgow and Birmingham.

Canning Town, Plaistow and Custom House 😬 I know Greggs staff and they sell out of stock so quick that they sometimes have to close early.

The one in Plaistow must be fairly new as it isn’t listed on their website.
