We have three now! Canning Town, Plaistow and Custom House 😬 I know Greggs staff and they sell out of stock so quick that they sometimes have to close early. The one in Plaistow must be fairly new as it isn’t listed on their website. There are only two. Canning Town and Plaistow are the same shop, on Hermit Road.

No they are not. There is one on Plaistow High Street not far from the station. Anyway this is going way off topic.

Comparable to Romford, of course, I would pick Stratford over Romford. As for those other two so-called 'shopping districts' they are not even on a scale. But the point is if you need a local shop they both more than cater to your needs, if you need a bigger shop you go to Stratford. So why would anyone in the area want to go Romford? Romford is a popular location for shopping and transport needs in the area for people. The lack of Romford-bound services is a weird omission in the southwestern corner of the borough for bus services. Becontree and Barking Riverside would both benefit from a direct link to Romford, helping ease services such as the 5, 174, and 175 as examples. There’s a reason why these areas don’t just link to one town and that’s it. People have diverse needs in different places. Romford is somewhere between the size of Ilford and Stratford.

Becontree has the 5 which goes to Romford and runs every few minutes. The 62 connects onto other Romford services within 20 minutes from any stop on its route. The 5 is one of Londons busiest routes but it's well reported it's busiest point is between Barking and Becontree Avenue, and is always busier heading west from Barking as opposed to East. The demand from Barking to Romford is catered for by the 5, and any small demand from Barking Riverside is catered by the EL2 which links to the 5 and to the 175 and 128 at Becontree Heath. You have a weird obsession with the EL4 linking to Romford and there is no evidence in bus patterns to prove there's a huge flow from Barking Riverside to the area. There's a bus every few minutes to Barking because that's a known and obvious travel pattern. Becontree has both the 62 and 145, and the 62 just went down in frequency without any major uproar. There's a reason all TfL talk about the EL4 has subsided and schemes like the Superloop are a far better use of money rather than burning money on routes like these which have very little use as they're already covered by existing routes. Romford is aimed as people in it's surrounding area, Barking is a town centre in it's own right and Stratford is far easier to access for people in Barking and in Barking Riverside should they need to go somewhere.

Personally I would just extend the 175 to Barking Riverside, that would give the link to Romford Market and Queen's Hospital. Localise the Romford-Hillrise Estate section if the extended route is too long.

Feel free for anyone to criticise this but what about extending the 165 to Havering Park and diverting the 365 to Hillrise Estate retaining Hillrise's link to Queens. The 175 can then take the Brewery stand where the 165 normally stands

I only have a ‘weird obsession’ because I prefer to talk about areas I have experience in, rather than rambling about routes I have little to no experience with. There’s a reason why the proposed route was speculated to be just 3 bph, which is fine for its purpose. And I would say that Becontree IS part of Romford’s surrounding area. It seems to be on the same tier as Goodmayes or Rainham. Just because TfL are spending money on schemes such as the Superloop doesn’t mean they’re not planning and analysing other areas for other bus connections.

However Barking Riverside, especially the eastern side of Thames View falls much more into the area where people will go to Stratford. So why does this place need a route to Romford when the EL2/EL1>5 combo will be enough for most people? Becontree as I have mentioned multiple times is connected to Romford adequately. The 62 is less than 20 minutes from any stop on its route to a route that goes to Romford and the 368 is the same too.

I agree with other comments that there may not be much demand to go from Barking Riverside to Romford, but perhaps some more local links in that direction might be useful? The current routes at Barking Riverside are all north-south links, and all go via Barking town centre. So if any more routes are to serve the Riverside / Thames View area, something east-west should be looked at. I've said before that a link to Beckton should be considered, to connect to the DLR plus supermarkets there, for example rerouteing something like the 262 - or at a later date, such a route could also go through the Beckton Riverside development. And similarly a link to the east might work, at least as far as Dagenham. For the eastern side of Barking Riverside, this is where the nearest supermarkets etc are, but the EL2 only goes as far as Dagenham Dock Station. Maybe the EL2 could double run to the station, then go up Choats Manor Way to terminate in the main part of Dagenham. Or extend something like the 145 the other way to Barking Riverside, or just a new route entirely? Another possibility could be to cover both directions at once, and reroute the 173 to go through Thames View / Barking Riverside? Would no longer serve the A13 between River Road and Dagenham Asda, though the 287 would still serve most of this. Not sure how this would impact current journey patterns on the 173 for passengers travelling to/from Upney, but the 173 is quite indirect anyway, so could even split into two routes if necessary?

Barking is closer to Stratford. Barking Riverside (and areas the proposed route passes through) is closer to Romford. Also there are a lot of people in Becontree that would appreciate a direct link to Romford. That's why the 5 runs from Becontree to Romford. Barking Riverside's location by the A13 still means people pick Stratford over Romford. Heck even people in Romford pick Stratford over Romford. Romford person here. I pick Romford over Stratford any day of the week

I pick Romford over Stratford any day of the week I said the same in a previous post, it’s much nicer than being stuck in Westfield! 8 mins by train from Stratford is a no brainier for me.

Could an EL4 replace the 5 between Romford and Becontree Heath the add some extra capacity to Barking and then go to the Riverside?

And while the 5 serves Martins Corner, yes, I was more so referring to Becontree Station and its surrounding area, which is a 20 minute walk away from there. Same can be said of the 174 and 175.

There's quite a lot of through journeys between Barking and Romford, cutting the 5 at Becontree Heath would remove that link. There would be no point in sending the EL4 to Barking on top of the EL1, EL3 and London Overground. As good as the EL4 sounds, perhaps the best link would be Barking Riverside to somewhere in Beam Park or Rainham Station via Castle Green, Dagenham Asda and the Beam Park development. As others have said, links to Becontree and Romford are really already there, Becontree has a choice of 5 from Martins Corner, 174 and 175 from Heathway or the quicker 86 from Chadwell Heath.

I was confused with the routing, I thought the EL4 would run from the Riverside to Barking then onwards. I agree the Romford to Barking link is important. Has pretty much run since the 1930s atleast.
