The 262 /473 are funny routes sharing a big section also duplicate by the 241 /69 from Plaistow towards Stratford. What I notice is the 473 is always the lighter used of the two routes! I am not sure how well the bus timetables are coordinated. I agree I think the 262 is busier, but I’ve been on plenty on crush loaded 473s so it’s certainly not a dead one. Buses tend to be pretty dead after Prince Regent though even at peak times. It’s funny I tend to see the 262/473 combo as more of a pair rather than routes in their own right. Huge common parallel section, always tendered together, same allocation, same buses, ran by the same operator. Since 1993 😉 the 473 is actually a split of the 173 which used to run from Chadwell Heath to Stratford via North Woolwich (can you imagine the run time on that journey nowadays 😂) It was also operated by Grey Green for a while from DX until around 1997/1998 when Stagecoach took over and so did the pairing , but back to topic , I think the best situation would be to keep the 262 as is , have the 101 divert over the 304 route to Custom House from Lonsdale Avenue , leave the 104 as it is , the 366 won't be able to cope with that section on its own , but I honestly tfl think Gallions Reach is in a isolated location if they want a bus service they should maybe pay for it or contract out their own free shuttle bus that seems to be what I get from the consultation .

I disagree slightly about Gallions Reach being isolated there is housing being built around Gallions Reach station and you also have the DLR depot and a industrial estate that backs onto the shopping park who might also use the local bus services. I can't think of any other shopping parks of this size only having a single decker bus route serving it.

Maybe TFL are hoping that the centre centre will offer to help towards the 101 and 262. They proposed to cut back the 166/216/465 till SCC agreed to continue to fund the routes.

But it isn't the same thing - the shopping centre isn't responsible for bus services as it's not a transport body or a county.

These proposals really fall short there.

Madness to cut both 101 and 262 . 366 will not cope not unless it’s double decked but it won’t happen as back roads between barking and Ilford are not wide enough for deckers . Could reroute 173 through gallons to replace the 101

The Custom House Crossrail site appears to have now been handed over to Conway who are replacing pavements and hopefully resurfacing Victoria Dock Road. Looks like the space could accommodate one bus on a stand.

1 bus. Surely the 304 needs a stand for 2 buses.

This was only a passing observation by car - I am not even sure they are building a bus stand (But would hope so as its the ideal time) or just reinstating the road as it was before Crossrail works began. I will take a walk on foot at a later date to take a closer look.

Also during peak hours Royal Dock Road is very congested which would make journey times even longer than now.

This Consultation page has vanished and has been replaced by a message saying that the Page is being updated.
Either results are imminent or someone at TfL removed this consultation a while ago and forgot to put the results up.

Normally mean a result is being announced soon. Not surprising now the Purdah is over and TFL want to save money. I wouldn't be surprised though if some revisions happen. Maybe the 262 remaining as far as Gallions Reach using the 101 stand with the 101 cut back to Beckton.

It's not fair the very inequal investment divide across London Everyone on the Bus Forum: Cut back this route to save money! No one uses it along that stretch! TfL: okay, we'll propose to cut back the 101 and 262 on a section with vast overprovison according to the actual usage data, five times the level of demand. The Bus Forum: no, not like that. My magic crayon said otherwise.
