Planters? Covid has changed things, rush hours are much quieter because of fewer people travelling to and from work whilst off peak is a lot busier so it seems a sensible move for TfL to make changes to bus lanes but as always they're never going to please everybody and will be d*mned whatever they do. If roads are quieter, then surely bus lanes are no longer needed ... should be suspending them rather than extending hours of operation. Roads are busier for much of the day as many people (quite understandably in the circumstances) use their car rather than public transport. LTN's are an entirely different subject but again it's impossible to please everyone.

The question is, why would other vehicles need to use the Bromley Common bus lane if there is no congestion? And if there is congestion the bus lane is justified. Clearly TfL are just trying to speed up bus travel in the face of increased car usage because of covid. Surely the reason why something should be prohibited should be answered before a reason why it should not be prohibited needs to be answered. TfL are proposing a change, which had already been agreed it is not needed. There needs to be a justified reason for this change, and frankly there is not one. Why waste time, money and effort on something that is not needed. Planters 2. My further objection to this bus lane going 24 hours relates to its location, very close to an ambulance station in one direction and a major A&E hospital in the other. Ambulances on blues and twos use this road many times each day, and if traffic is prevented from using the bus lane, there is no overtaking possibility heading southbound. Remember, only an ambulance has RTA exemption to use the bus lane, and a helpful car driver using it to get out of the way of an ambulance has no defence in law. If there were 4 lanes, with the bus lanes in both directions, this would not be an issue, but as there are 3 lanes, the only workable solution would be to move a 24 hour bus lane to the middle lane, rather than nearside northbound, as there are no bus stops to consider after Tubbenden Lane.

My response has been submitted. Given what I said above, unsurprisingly I am against this particular bus lane going 24/7.
