TfL have started this consultation:
Summary of changes
We are proposing to make the following changes:
Providing new cycle lanes, which would be fully protected from traffic. On some sections, the cycle lanes would be ‘bi-directional’: this means that there would be two adjacent tracks for cyclists, one in each direction. On other sections, there would be a single cycle track on each side of the road Improved pedestrian crossings at a number of places to make it easier for people to cross the road New trees and other improvements to make the area look and feel more pleasant, while also helping to adapt to climate change – e.g. trees provide shade from extreme heat in summer and reduce flooding. In addition, new ‘rain gardens’ and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) will be considered at the next phase of design, subject to feasibility
But what the blurb does say is that "we are planning on narrowing the A314, removing at least 2 bus stops and generally making the journey between Hounslow & Brentford not worth doing unless you like wearing lycra and ignore the rules of the road".

Was about to say. “Because the superhighway worked so well at taking cars off the road and is being used so much in Chiswick, we are planning on extending it for a few miles to improve face”.

Really concerned about the removal of bus lanes. I thought that corridor was well used for the E8 to have been added, so to then throw the E8 and others into traffic, well that's a recipe for disaster IMO.

And this is where people quietly abandon buses which are stuck in traffic for cars which are also stuck in the same traffic but at least it’s warm in winter and cool in summer, no chicken wings or people listening to music loudly While the cycle lanes remain as crowded as the city of London in April 2020

Actively avoid it because of how much of a mess it is daily. The superhighway isn't used by the lychra wearing cycling enthusiasts as they either think they're too good for the cycle lanes or use busier roads, and is too far out to be used regularly by tourists. Complete joke. And they want to extend it! Only good thing CS9 did was close off Wellesley Road as a rat run.

Chiswick High Road I think is a good example about how these things can really get people off the bus and into cars especially when you have the A4 paralleling it.

I think Colliers Wood is a great example of cycle lanes doing bad... 57/131/219 are forced to sit in congestion forever and the cycle lane clearly isn't driving people away from their cars, and further north around Tooting Bec the traffic can build up too. Lucky 219 gets to go through all of it too

Unfortunate as it is, I’m not sure that it is all that sensible running the 131 east of Wimbledon now, I think its resources are better used on the rest of the service.

I doubt the E8 extension will survive for much longer, it’s an easy cutback to make. Why would it be an easy cutback? I guess with falling demand across London and the hopper fare may make TFL tempted to cut the E8 back to Brentford and leave that section again to the 235/237. Not sure though if they would cope thou without the E8. If the 235 ever went DD then the E8 would possibly be in more danger.

Demand is falling, the passengers are not there any more and TfL needs to find cuts. The E8 isn’t ‘essential’ between Brentford and Hounslow, the extension was only designed to provide extra capacity over the busiest section of London Road. It would be an easy one for TfL to pick off if they need to find savings.

It would be an easy one for TfL to pick off if they need to find savings. Bit extreme to say the passengers “aren’t there anymore”. Demand is falling in Central London and cuts (for better or for worse) have been made there. But London Road still sees very healthy demand for commuting, schools and is far more accessible for general local journeys than the train . Would be putting a lot of pressure on the 235 especially which sees excessive demand and reliability issues in other areas of the route. You are right when you say the E8 is there to support other routes, but that’s still an important function at the moment.

An absolute waste of money which I hope local residents will challenge.
