The tender result for the 407 left it quite open for Abellio to explore their options. The only prerequisite for the new contract is the buses have to be hybrid double deck. The more I think about it, I think the 407 will get some new buses (Smart Hybrids) alongside existing stock (i.e from the 45). Moreover on the point about the new buses, I can see Abellio buying more Smart Hybrids as they are the cheaper alternative to the ultracap hybrids and are classed by TfL as hybrids. I've been told that the tender award staff notice states that the buses will be refurbished vehicles from another route. Having said that it's not uncommon nor unusual in change of fate. Should it be that new buses are ordered 'directly' for the 407 I agree that they'll most likely be Smart hybrids. Regarding 2001-5, any confirmation on whether their gearboxes are Voith or ZF spec'd? I have been trying to think about what refurbished hybrids that notice could be referring to. The only hybrids that have been refurbished are 2423-2443 for route 381. All of Abellio’s hybrids from 14 reg onwards are still on the contracts they were originally bought for.

Despite me being 'Mr. Voith', Voith died at Euro V and became very dull with the short gear ratios taking away it's character. ZF was nice at Euro V and was decent at Euro VI before start stop finished that off. Even outside of London, Arriva seems to order Voith MMC's as the 1 in Southend and 320 in Hemel Hempstead are on Voith. Euro VI Aliison was epic until start stop ruined that too.

Well I drove a DLE for the first time today and I can honestly say nice bus to drive generally but the voith box is jerky, DLE30254. So someone was saying that they are jerky well he wasn't lying. The jerk comes when trying to slow down at times and the retarder kicks in early or sometimes when changing gear.

I agree with you with the exception that I still dont mind the euro5 engined DWs as they've still got a good kickdown performance that's not all that different from the euro4 E40Ds on Voith.

Yeah, they’re the only exception for me - Voith Euro V Enviro 400’s in comparison sound quite dull.

When the 211 leaves Abellio. I think it would make sense to unite all Abellio's LTs:
159 transferred to WL with changeovers at Vassall Road using the 36/185/436, similarly to the 3
196 transferred to QB with changeovers at Landsdowne Green using the 452
C10 transferred to QB with changeovers at Victoria using Southern
The 196 has a PVR of 16 and the C10 has a PVR of 20. This releases 36 spaces at WL for the 159 which has a PVR of 34

It would probably be better to do it at Vauxhall but only towards Elephant & Castle where the 196 has it’s own stop and this wouldn’t affect other routes.
