Someone asked me the other day what was done with the spoil (earth/clay) that was removed from beneath London when the various tube/surface lines were built. I know I'm going back a bit but it's an interesting question. Don't recall seeing any mention in the various books on the London Underground.
Off the top, I would imagine it was dumped at sea or used to build new embankments where required.
Any suggestions?

And for filling in old quarries perhaps.

Some of it, although I do not know from where on the network it came from, was reputed to have been used to create he banking under the terracing at Craven Cotage, the home of Fulham FC, and possibly other grounds.

I was told years ago, the site of Stamford Bridge was marsh land and the spoil was dumped there before the stadium was built.

It was dumped into a lot of disused Gravel pits.
