Does anyone know what the maximum speed of the Metropolitan Line A stock trains is? They go very fast non-stop on "Fast Amersham" services between Finchley Road and Harrow-on-the-Hill, but the adjacent Chiltern Railways trains always seem to go quite a bit faster..
What are the maximum (in-service) speeds achievable on the tube? and which line and sections do they run at this top speed?

The Met stock, when on the amersham, or baker st fast it is correct the met stock can obtain speeds of 70mph. even on semi fast they still get up to 70mph when they use the main line to avoid wembley preston northwick etc hope this is of help.

I know for a fact that the Central Line is another fast one. Every single part of it is fast aprt from both Bank stations enterances. The service between Debden & Theydon Bois. wow! it can speed. Also approaching stations like Stratford, Rebbridge, Wanstead, Gants Hill, Fairlop, Mile End, Bethnal Green, Chancery Lane, Holborn, Tottenahm Court Road, Oxford Circus, Bond Street, Lancaster Gate & Holland Park. Most of the time it still accelarates when in the station. I love the Central Line to bits. It is the longest tube line of 74km lol. It goes to Woodford. what else can i say. It is fast. always the 8 carriage trains are faster.

Why does the Central line leave Shepards Bush Station on the left, but ends up on the right when arriving at White City? I don't understand why lol

One time right. I was at the eastern end of the Central line destination, EPPING, going to Woodford. I heard the Central Line new speaker saying "This is Epping. Please mind the gap between he station & the platform. This is a central line train to Ongar." This is North Weald". This is a central line train to Ealing Broadway". I was hinking, yes. The Central Line will be going to Ongar again after like 12 yrs now or so lol If ou would like to reply back to me. my email/msn address is jamaicarussa@hotmail.com

Jam, Goes back to the days when the line ended at White city. The trains ran round a loop to come back to Shepherds Bush. The bend west of Shrepherds Bush is the tightest on the U.G. Check the Lost stations web page for a briliant history. When the Central line as extended to the new White City post war, the line reverts to left hand running on the line parallel with Ducane Road. The existing ground level depot at White city is being replaced with a new one underground to allow for the new shoping centre to be built. Happy new year to everyone.

Thank you john for answering my question. Now i understand why. I guess that you drive route 58 from Walthamstow - Markhouse Road - Leyton Station - Thatched House - Forest Gate Station - Green Street - Upton Park - East Ham. Why do you always change at Walthamstow Central Bus Station. Every first driver change there. I see it everytime when I am waiting for route 275 because I drive route 73 & i take 230 bus to walthamstow Central, then 275 to Woodford so.... . just wondering why?

John, what's the fastest you've been in your Vectra? Is it one of the new CDTi 150's or the older Euro-3 DTi's? I've had 125 out of my 2.0 DTi on the M1

The Northern Line also crosses over somewhere on the south section, Clapham Common, or Clapham South, departs on the left, ends up on the right!

Sorry it doesn't. That section was all new in the 1920's. you might find Tooting Bec is one tunnel on top of the other. And before you ask-a Bec was a bishops garden.
