The top speed of the A stock is 60MPH, but this was reduced a while back to 50MPH. Chiltern services [via Amersham] run at 75MPH.

One time right. I was at the eastern end of the Central line destination, EPPING, going to Woodford. I heard the Central Line new speaker saying "This is Epping. Please mind the gap between he station & the platform. This is a central line train to Ongar." This is North Weald". This is a central line train to Ealing Broadway". I was hinking, yes. The Central Line will be going to Ongar again after like 12 yrs now or so lol If ou would like to reply back to me. my email/msn address is jamaicarussa@hotmail.com I think even more surprising is that the announcer said "mind the gap between the station and the platform, unless, of course, it was a typo from you? ;D

I have just checked the Metropolitan line supplement to confirm, and the maximum line speed on the Metropolitan line is 60mph for Chilterns and 50mph for A stocks.

A Stocks can do 70mph, but are limited to 60mph, and a 1992 stock on the central line can do 60mph, they do that on stretches on the central line, but they do mostly 50mph between short stations as they accelerate and decelerate very quickly.

If you read the above posts you'll see that A-stock is limited to 50mph, not 60mph.

A stock is limited to 50mph - due to its bogies and the state of the track. 1992 stock is now limited to 85 kph because of Chancery Lane.
