There was an article in a paper a week or so back saying that the Victoria to Gatwick Rail link was being axed. Anyone know anthing about it. I would have thought it was unlikely but the way train services are nowadys who knows !

I thought the original plan was to end the "Gatwick Express" service and use the resources to enhance services of existing lines to areas like Brighton. This is because services to Brighton serve Gatwick airport anyway but stop at Clapham Junction and East Croydon.

Wouldn't just be good to merge the current "Brighton Express" with the Gatwick trains (using the current 460 stock) thus calling London, Clapham, East Croydon, Gatwick and Brighton.
But then that would lose the stand time at Gatwick, as airline passengers need more time to board/alight with thier heavy luggage.
Or using platform 6 at Gatwick, on the eastern side of the station, which would reduce conflicts north of the station, but this will require one train to leave teh platform before another one can enter.
