GNER has lost the East Coast Mainline Franchise. Did they? And what makes you think that? They have surrendered the franchise - big difference. And it is now being re-awarded on a temporary franchise.

The problem with the new franchises as witnessed with GNER and SWT is the subsidy and DFT being stricter on the rail companies. Take FGW with Wessex, NatEx ran it to the ground with maintainence on the diesels, obviously they needed to get some of the 158's from Transpennine down very quick. It's highly confusing with the Central Trains and FGW (Wessex) fleet at the moment. They need to iron out those problems.

NatEx are bad with maintenance with their trains. Take a ride on One West Anglia's trains from Liverpool Street (Bruce Grove line)and you can see what I mean. What made them choose pink and turquoise as part of a colour scheme? The class 315s are way too old, and they are almost as bad as the ones on the Silverlink, though TFL are taking this over later this year...

A further franchise has been lost by Virgin Trains recently as well. This is to be taken over by Arriva Trains.
