I would have thought trams are faster than trolleybuses? Possibly safer? Don't forget that trains used to run from croydon to wimbledon. If you are taling of Trams rather then light railways both are capable of going as fast. Trollybuses would probably have better acceleration and deceleration. Trolleybuses can cope with hills. Trams cannot manage anthing much more then a gentle incline and even then may struggle under bad weather conditions As far as safety is concerned there is not much in it but I would suspect trolley buses will be slightly safer as they can sterr out of an accident a tram cannot and braking on trams is not as good.

As long as we are talking about similar generations of either, then there shouldn't be any differences in speeds, acceleration and inclination.

As trams run on rails (and therefore need less energy compared with tyred vehicles) and also as trams can be longer, would they not use less energy per passenger kilometre?

It's about time this important link is built. It would speed up journey times and would be better than taking the 157 which is unreliable or the 410 which you would be lucky to even manage to board it.
