Tottenham's DLA289 didn't sound too healthy when I rode it on the 243... As I got off at the Roundway I could hear somethinge rattling in the engine as it pulled away...

PVL311 was making a grinding sound, although some of the buses in this batch were delivered like this. Was this a continuous grinding sound that came every time it accelerated, or was it one that came on and off, on and off continously? Your observation has just reminded me of an awful griding noise I heard on one of Transdev's VLEs once - I couldn't describe it, you'd have had to hear it for yourself I believe it has gone now though. It was a continous sound. I would of got a video of it but it was rush hour so I left it. I heard this sound on vehicles from other garages like PM and NX.

Travel London 9728 and London Central AVL45 (both V-reg) rev high before changing gears. Arriva PDL4 sounds more "meaty" than the others (PDLs 1-5) which have appeared on the 410/450 Thornton Heath's ancient DLAs (S2xx JUA) also sound shagged. I've heard some horrendous blowing noises out of some of First's VNs. Somebody sort out all of the overrevving Tridents and B7TLs - its been a problem since around 2005 and they sound terrible The Gold Trident which used to be on the 25 back in 2002/3 (V942 ULL??) I think had its silencer removed. Absolutely deafening though the narrow City streets . What has happened to these Tridents anyway - not seen any since the 7 was given to Metroline?

Pretty much all early DLAs sound tired ;D The 'gold Trident' you refer to would have been W951 ULL, fleetnumber TNA32951 (or TAL951 in old money). As to what has happened to them, some of them became burnt toast after that arsonist incident at Westbourne Park, while the rest were cascaded out to First Glasgow. More overrevving buses - Transdev's early VLP's (51' reg, at BT for the 183 and 292). It's not just a few of the buses in that batch that do this - its every single one of them It was a continous sound. I would of got a video of it but it was rush hour so I left it. I heard this sound on vehicles from other garages like PM and NX. Continuous grinding sound - that's a new one for me I've only ever heard such a noise once - perhaps I don't get on B7TLs enough

Thank goodness I saw this thread once again otherwise I would have forgotten Rode on VNZ32335 on the 83 today and halfway through the journey it began to make a weird humming noise which sounded exactly like the humming noise Tridents get from time to time

www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpNkLHIJYrAThis Volvo Olympian had a strange background noise, still an awesome beast, sorely missed by London. Also while in Redhill, a Pyoneer Volvo was making a racket as well.

Same as ELS14, sounds like it has ten fans on at once. One from today, 9072 has very poor acceleration, especially up Anerley Hill, took longer than normal.

My word, why doesn't TFL ban darts and tridents aswell cause even euro4 enviros (06reg batch for the 196 at LG) make loud noises, yet I have not heard anything of B9s making any noises even the 06 reg one on trial at LG. Also the euro4 darts on the W19 ED12 was noted.
