Bells on the ceiling? Certainly never seen anything like that. The only buses I ever saw with buses on the ceiling were the really OLD and noisy buses they used on the 646 for a while. Kinda like this one in fact

I do believe that the bells in the ceiling were generally an outer London thing. I know what you're on about though as they were under a strip along the top of the roof/lower deck. I also believe these had them too kevin-smith.fotopic.net/p50840425.html

That seems all too weird to me as everyone I knwo is used to pushing the bell on a bar, which leads from the ceiling of the bus to the handle on the back of the seats. I cannot imagine wanting to get off a bus and having to the press the bell on the ceiling of the bus.

Thanks for the help on height guys. So i'm guessing the Enviro 400's wouldn't fit under a bridge plated 13"6' but in reality buses 13"10' fit under? Albiet last time i was on said 13"10' bus and went under Hawkwell railway bridge (13"6') there was one hell of a scraping sound...and a bit of roof striping got stuck on the bridge...*whistles and walks away*
And on the subject of bells on the roof, i travel on some buses that have bells on the roof, they are E/F reg Northern Counties Olympians and have one long bell strip from front to back upstairs and down...and there are a couple that have a normal pull button bell stuck on the roof upstairs as well.
Cheers

It wasn't very often they used the nationals on that route but I assure you they did appear more than once (old capital citybus ones in fact - they were yellow) If not too similar to this one

I remember them. Got one on the 296 years ago from school. In fact, it must've been about 11 years ago lol. They also used to run on the 348 and 510 (?) i believe. Not sure about the latter route though, might have been the 511

Yes, they were. Just abit lower by abit an inch i think with a rubber inner that was grooved. I think the last LT designed bus to have this feature may well have been the RM
