Does the TfL rule of hybrids in ULEZ apply to tube replacement in the ULEZ ? I ask because I am not sure if is it a London bus requirement or TfL as a whole Today appears route DL6 per TFL website (route UL20 on lvf) is operating from Tower Hill Majority are hybrids, but some diesel buses are also being used. It does apparently. That route doesn't enter the ULEZ. The route has been amended to use Leman Street instead of Minories to avoid entering the ULEZ as not all buses will be euro 6.

No so far as i know buses on rail replacement just need to be euro 6 and not hybird to operate a rail replacement inside the ULEZ.

I think this is where TfL rail replacements would be classed as a TfL contracted service so would have same rules applied as any other route.

It may do in the future but there are rarely any rail replacements for TFL entering the central section anymore apart from the District line to Tower Hill which can avoid the ULEZ, Northern Line when the northern section is out with replacements terminating at Russell Square and possibly the Met / Jubilee line replacement to Baker Street and London Overground replacements from Liverpool Street. The euro 6 hybrid requirement is for buses operating on bus routes which are TFL contracts. This district line would only require euro 6 buses if it entered the ULEZ.

OK if buses are not EuroVI then they are definitely not allowed into the ULEZ*. Not being hybrid/electric/hydrogen does not disqualify a diesel bus on rail replacement if it meets the EuroVI emissions standard. That said, the lower section of Minories (the section that is part of the Tower Hill one-way system) is not in the ULEZ. * unless the operator pays the charge, or the buses are over 40 years old of course!

Thanks everyone, so actually it doesn’t serve Tower Hill (the road of that name on which the station is located), but is ending nearer Tower Gateway outside the ULEZ.

For the Northern Line jobs the terminal workings can be tweaked to avoid the ULEZ. Met/Jub at Baker Street already avoids the ULEZ (turning via Baker Street - York Street - Gloucester Place stays just outside the zone).
Anything serving Liverpool Street will certainly have to enter the ULEZ though. Southern/Southeastern buses at London Bridge will also enter the ULEZ so will have to be EuroVI.

Fairly quiet this weeekend. Abellio London & friends will be on the Canning Town to Barking service. Meanwhile the Euro 4 E400s will continue to ply on the Croydon to Birkbeck Tramlink replacement service. It's also that time again in the engineering cycle for the Sunday evening NLL closure. It has become tradition for the 2215 trip from Stratford to Richmond to be a 66 plate E200 MMC from the P13 allocation but this is suject to; - Availability - there are only 5 at WL - The late turn 484 drivers not nicking any that are spare - C10 MMCs not being pushed out with no negotiation - E400 MMCs not being pushed out due to ULEZ. There's more than enough room for everyone to have a pair of seats to themselves on this service with a small single decker. Ended up on the DL7 today, although probably safe to say after that experience I'll just stick to the non stop Canning Town to Barking one. It's actually borderline hilarious how far that service goes to avoid Stratford, it goes there but doesn't actually stop. Leading to it being indirect as well as a magnet for traffic. I know they want to stop freeloaders from getting the 238X for free, however this is doing benefits to nobody. Many people just get the standard 238 and pay the £1.50 rather than getting this service, every 238 I saw was heaving while we were carrying air.

My driver on DL-6 was interesting to say the least. We ran a red light by Canning Town and kept cutting up cars and buses along the A11. Apart from that , my experience with the RRP was quite good. Even saw ex-Metroline VP221(LK51XGR) on DL-7.

I see the fully loaded 238s! what way does the DL7 go to end up at Stratford? I assumed they turned at West Ham Lane towards Plaistow?

They follow the 69 from Canning Town to Stratford Park then follow the 238 to Barking, really aggravating when you do all of that only to end up on Barking Road again after starting on it. Not to mention most of the people in the area want to go to Stratford anyway. I know it's been mentioned the DL-As crowds would get uncontrollable when it went to Stratford, but this new arrangement is pathetic. I did use the c2c this morning via Stratford and that was completely loaded as well, just goes to show the dependance of the District and Hammersmith & City Line in the area.

Busy weekend for TfL rail replacement over Easter. Bank - Canary Wharf -> Sullivan Buses Canning Town - Barking -> Abellio London East Croydon - Birkbeck -> Stagecoach Hackney Downs - Chingford -> Abellio London Seven Sisters - Cheshunt -> Abellio London Seven Sisters - Enfield -> Abellio London Walthamstow - Barking -> Abellio London Wimbledon - Earls Court -> Abellio London Not sure what I will be doing yet - was offered a nice Lewisham to Dartford via Woolwich shift on Good Friday which I had to turn down . Still on the hunt for a job for Easter Sunday, apparently no middles or lates available and I am not missing church!

Many people just get the standard 238 and pay the £1.50 rather than getting this service, every 238 I saw was heaving while we were carrying air. The District Line doesn't go to Stratford, so that's understandable. The current strategy serves more District Line stations than the old one did. The old route via Stratford also suffered from dire reliability problems - it wasn't uncommon for the 7-8 minute through service to have gaps of 40+ minutes, with buses piling up at Aldgate. Rounders were taking over 4 hours with trips lost, late meal reliefs being a nightmare and Whitechapel to Aldate East being timed for 2 minutes but taking 45... I hated arriving at Stratford and seeing a queue of hundreds of people snaking around the bus station...Canning Town is better equipped to handle the demand with lots of capacity along the relevant corridors. The DL7 route was disrupted by a closure of the Barking Road on Saturday which saw the 5 and 115 shoved down Plashet Grove. I was glad to be far, far away in Croydon that day!

Bank - Canary Wharf -> Sullivan Buses I guess this confirms (if there was still any doubt) that rail services are not subject to the hybrid requirement within the ULEZ. Unless Sullivan plan to subcontract the whole service out!
