According to this article, many of the buses to be used to City Airport during the 9 day shutdown 23-31 May will be bendy buses. Apparently DLR management thinks this type are better for replacement services to the airport as many passengers have luggage This article is based on info from Rob Niven (head of DLRs Development and Planning) www.wharf.co.uk/2009/05/dlr-tells-users-works-will-hav-1.htmlLets hope this a new trend for rail replacements

Hmmm, will be interesting to see how they cope with the stand at City Airport. Might cause alot of traffic chaos for the 473 and 474 ;D Other than that, there's no real restrictions to them being used. Judging by this, i'd guess that Ensign will be operating the service to Prince Regent

Well, i've just checked my uni e-mails and it seems that the Docklands Campus are in talks with TfL and the DLR management about organising a replacement bus service to/from Canning Town to Cyprus. Now, i'm guessing if this happens, it'll be only for uni students, so student I.D will need to be provided for. Either way, if this happens, i'll be more than happy

Yes but as John said above, this other rail replacement route is likely to be for UEL students only. If that happens they'd be much better off than cramming onto a normal rail replacement service with regular passengers, plus it would ensure that they get to their exams on time. Presumably this would be a private hired bus. You can't really set a precedent of allowing every business or organisation to have an exclusive bus during disruptions.

You'd be suprised how busy the Beckton bound ones get, but it's normally only set timed ones, i.e, ones before lesoons ;D I have a feeling it'll only be one bus doing this service if it does come about. I'm certain they'll be keeping in touch with students to let us know what is going on so as soon as i know anything, i'll post it on here. Either way, it's got to be better than relying on the 101, 474 and District Line for a 9:30 exam

If only it wasnt busy going towards that side of town. It gets quite busy at Royal Albert where a lot of staff work for Newham council at building 1000, also exams are going at Excel during the next two weeks. And on the subject of Excel its gonna get quite busy next thursday and friday the are expecting 15K on each day.

Have you ever used the DLR when there's been an important exhibition on at the ExCel? Judging by that response, i'd say no as they normally run extra's to help cope with the extra demand placed on the line. In fact, i've known Canning Town to be shut to the DLR because of overcrowding caused by people wanting the ExCel and UEL. Also, the Beckton line can have trains running up to every 5 minutes, so a bus service every 10 minutes would be providing half the service for twice the useage, which would be stupid. Please, get your facts right before stating something
