Following comments on the Goblin thread made me think about how SWR are doing versus their franchise commitments Per the franchise announcement, 21 months ago in March 2017 this weekend should have seen enhanced services (now deferred to May 2019) Full reintroduction of 442s (all refurbished) see page 177 of 2nd link, a few have been seen on test, but nothing to indicate all are ready And of course the first of the new suburban trains are due from next summer, so you would expect the first one to be out on test by now. But of course they are Aventra derivatives (like Elizabeth Line 345, and Overground 710) so they are reliable with fault free software..... on second thoughts, let’s hope no one else is planning to lease the 458s and 707s for next few years www.gov.uk/government/news/first-mtr-south-western-trains-limited-wins-south-western-franchisewww.gov.uk/government/publications/south-western-railways-2017-rail-franchise-agreementThe new train introduction date is on page 434 Column A : Anticipated date of provisional acceptance Column B : Total number of New Five Car EMUs to be provisionally accepted by the Franchisee by the corresponding date in Column A Column C : Total number of New Ten Car EMUs to be provisionally accepted by the Franchisee by the corresponding date in Column A 15 September 2019, 0 + 2 13 October 2019, 1 + 7 10 November 2019, 2 + 12 08 December 2019, 2 + 17 05 January 2020, 2 + 21 02 February 2020, 2 + 23 01 March 2020, 2 + 27 31 March 2020, 2 + 32 28 April 2020, 2 + 36 26 May 2020, 3 + 40 23 June 2020, 5 + 43 21 July 2020, 9 + 47 18 August 2020, 12 + 50 15 September 2020, 15 + 53 13 October 2020, 18 + 56 10 November 2020, 24 + 60 08 December 2020, 30 + 60 Total 30 x 5 car and 60 x 10 car = 750 Entirely different point, but staff/management relations at SWR are not only exponentially worse than at SWT but worse than at FGW, which takes some doing. Pity the poor people of SW England who bear the brunt of all this! Another SWR strike on the Saturday before Xmas.

The National station survey has come out and Waterloo is still busiest, but has fallen by 5% to 94,355,000 entries and exits in 2017/18 The number of entries & exits fell over 350,000 at Woking to 7,642,076 and fell over 250,000 at Guildford to 7,954,618 Presumably the SWR franchise is going to be feeling financial pressures (and probably glad that the increased service didn’t happen this week) orr.gov.uk/statistics/published-stats/station-usage-estimatesJust for fun, my local station (Kingston) has fallen from 88th busiest station nationally to 100th which confirms my suspicion that SWT was preferred to SWR

However with the amount of severe disruption on the network and the warnings not to travel unless extremely necessary , i am not surprised this has happened. Do you not think the timetable changes would have begun the process of offseting the financial woes? I personally feel the rail networks fare increase should not of been as high as is intended. I dont disagree with the principle of fare increases this year in particular it just does not seem to be appropriate to have it that high.

I like the way Class 707s announce the station ‘Cobham and Stoke d’Abernon’ 😂 It is my favourite train station name in the country and I can only imagine how bad it sounds with previous experience of 707s to Guildford via Epsom. So how does it sound?

So how does it sound? Quite the emphasis on the ‘D’ in d’Abernon 😂 First time I’ve had a 707 on this line, and I use it a lot 🙂 Cobham is my usual alighting point (before anyone asks, no I don’t work at the bus museum 😂 )

Absolute chaos today on the SWR network after someone was hit by a train at Berrylands. In the morning absolutely everything was at a gridlock not a single train service on the SWML was running on time. Considering such an awful situation I am in no way complaining, but a standard 50min trip to Guildford took me over 2 hours today, showing how badly services were affected.
As I was returning home the delays were not so significant - I'm sure that things should be back to normal tomorrow. My thoughts are with those affected by the events that took place at Berrylands

Thats the problem with SWR. Once something goes wrong it takes them a day to recover. It’s a shocking service, absolutely no upside from South West Trains tenure.

It’s a shocking service, absolutely no upside from South West Trains tenure. In fairness with all four lines through Berrylands closed for hours they were never going to be able to recover today. Sadly there is very little that can be done to prevent such incidents.
